He said something to the effect that since the forum does not have the moderation he would prefer, he does not feel as though he would enjoy being here. The truth is that the forum is indeed light on moderation of certain words and subject matter, but the truth is also that it is self-moderating. You objected to having your wording changed by the software a couple of days ago, and that has been changed. I feel if jwild joined he would likely have some things he didn't care for and may make a request to have a few things changed. There are certain aspects of the humor that is used here that may bother him, yet he and I still exchange posts on the scout forum from time to time and e-mails as well. I don't moderate myself to please him, but he accepts me as I am...In the end, would he be unhappy? Well, he DID have issues with posters that did not take the scout forum "seriously", so it is likely that he may have an issue or two. Could they be solved? Maybe. Probably. I'm not certain. I do know also that he has expressed a desire to spend more time developing certain relationships in his life that have been very rewarding for him, so I must say that I would congratulate him for having done so. He told me of the relationships and it truly sounds like he is having a great experience... Perhaps it's for the best...In a great way for him... It's interesting that you requested this be done in a way that is not demeaning, which may tell you all you need to know about one of jwild's objections... (: Either way, I consider him an "internet friend" and I feel certain I always will... I miss him and his sometimes lengthy tomes....he reached out to me in private a few times, and seems very genuine....he is a little young to remember some of the players that I would enjoy discussing....say, Ruffing, Keller, Dickey....but from the mid-50's on he was good...….I hope he is content with whatever group he is sharing his observations...he would be a good add here if he ever decided to join with us.... I agree he'd be a great add here, but I would say that we shant hold our breath in the hope that he will come around. If he has one noticeable flaw it's his stubborness. Once he's made up his mind you might as well be fighting with Mother Nature herself on the subject of making the sky green... |

Kinda turns me off that you said he wants censorship on the board. It seems like PP pandered to him... At least I always thought that back in the day. I think it's better he writes to himself on PP and we go there to read it LOL. Ok maybe I'm being hard on him... But if he really wants more moderation on the board for him to come over... We don't need him here...

There is a very fine line between that of censorship and moderation...but I do feel as though moderation is a milder form of censorship. I recall having had some posts removed on the Pinstripe Plus forum that I felt were quite innocuous...
We do have a touchy subject on this forum, which is that of politics. If, however someone here wanted to launch a thread that was about nothing but politics (not me, thank you) then I feel the community could choose to go there to discuss political subjects...or stay away from them...This is just an example, not trying to make some radical change here...
Yes, there was some pandering I believe. That's okay. The forum (Patrick) wanted that extra content and research that jwild was giving. His format was very long because he often would think with his fingers while he was researching, but he did do everything with the full intent of helping the community of posters. Perhaps we can all suffer from a type of delusion at times that we are needed, when in reality over time we just fade away...

I am thinking the fact that jwild is not here probably has something to do with the fact that no one told me I was blind or an idiot yet It remains to be seen if I can get here at home. So far I have posted from work. Hard to do the game thread that way... |

Obviously they care about what makes them money. That makes perfectly good sense. The former owners apparently felt that providing a free “gateway” would draw more new subscribers. That may or may not have been a good strategy. It worked for me. I subscribed after posting for free for a year or two (maybe longer). I’m sure there is a cost to keep each forum going. At some point as they see such little usage they’ll probably close the free side down. Most businesses look only at the bottom line these days, so we need not villanize them for following what has become a typical business model. Thanks again to kaybli for the inspiration to find a way for all of us to continue. |
