You think Girardi secretly would rather play the WC game against the Twins with Severino rather than play the Division clinching game with Boston with Severino and possibly the WC game with Gray? I thought the same thing actually though I’m not sure why he should be afraid of Boston the Yankees won the season series versus them. Game is at home etc. Plus if you lose that you get a second game at home. I understand trying to avoid it if losing that first game meant going to Seattle or something the next day but it’s two home games and with the Yankees home record they don’t lose 2 in a row at home very often. Plus if they won that rays game and won out they could have won the division without a tie. Now the best they can do is a tie. Look I can see if it was 4 up with 4 to play but it was 3 up with 4 to play which gives a cushion for one loss. Girardi is so by the book that it wouldn’t shock me for him to be like oh no 3 days in a row for this guy if we lose oh well the division was unlikely anyway. I never got that mentality I get wearing out guys but they were down by 1 run not 10. Did you notice none of the top guys pitched in that game? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yea, it was all very strange. Holder, Shreve, Heller, then Gallegos. But then today's game he uses Robertson, Betances, and Chapman? I don't know if its mismanagement or Girardi has a method to his madness. I would much rather have two shots to go to the ALDS (playing Boston for the division then if necessary the Wildcard) rather than one (just the wildcard) no matter the pitching matchups.

So, today we saw the Dr. Tanaka version of Dr. Tanaka and Mr. Hyde. What a maddeningly inconsistent pitcher. The worst ever for that. Worse than Pineda. Worse than A. J. Burnett...You never know when the monster will emerge...

Right why would you not ? Two chances vs one. Even if it wore out the team for game 1 of the ALDS its not like losing game 1 vs kluber or verlander or keuchel was a guaranteed win anyway plus you need 3 wins in that series not 1. Anytime you are offered to play 2 games and told you only need to win one of them why would you not take that?
