LOL, thats awesome pipps! I must have forgotten. I wish there was some record of that so I could listen to some of it. The station long ago ceased to exist -- not my fault, I swear -- well in reality there is still a station on that frequency, but the call letters and format changed decades ago. I used to have some cassettes of the show (primitive times), but they stopped being usable within a few years. For me it was the proverbial kid in a candy shop -- I used my own records because my collection was bigger than the station's, plus I took the format in a different direction, playing more R&B and rare songs than the rest of DJs who stuck to the boring standard oldies format. I was just a Saturday guy -- I did have a real job, after all, this was a joyride -- but station management let me do whatever I wanted. I ran my own board, shamelessly plugged advertisers who were generous to me (payola), even shut down the transmitter at the end of my shift. I could occasionally get artists who were appearing in either Santa Fe or Albuquerque to come on, either in studio or on the phone. Most of them were not performers many people today would know about or care about, but it was Heaven for me. I know I said this on here before, I became lifelong friends with one of them, a guy named Hank Ballard who wrote and performed the original of "The Twist." Only hardcore early R&B enthusiasts would know of him today -- even then, none of the other jocks were interested in having him on because they knew nothing about him. To me it was the equivalent of maybe going to a ballgame with Paul O'Neill or David Cone. I made my wife promise not to listen for the first month. And my very first show, when my intro was over and it was just me alone in front of a live mic, was probably the most nervous I have ever been. But after my second show I was having so much fun that I told her it was okay!! Pretty cool stuff! I see why you are so knowledgeable about music now. I do remember you telling us about your friendship with the guy who wrote the Twist. My brother had an underground hip hop show on NYU radio he used to do. I used to listen to it every week.

Did you ever sit in with him at the studio? Sounds like some entertainment gene runs through your family.

I guess we do have some entertainment gene in our family. My brother did a radio show, my mom sings Bengali music and even has her own CD, and I make Yankee photoshops.

I have told you a million times that you underestimate the humorous value in your photoshops and that you could be getting paid for them somewhere.

But there are so many graphic designers better than me out there. I'm just an amateur. Plus I like creating them on my own schedule without someone telling me what to do. I don't want to turn my hobby into another job basically.

I've mentioned it before on here Kaybli. I had an oldies show in Santa Fe back in the 1980s. Strictly low rent. Most fun I've ever had. It wasn't getting picked up for syndication, that's for sure.🤣 You silver-tongued devil, you!

That is to say, there was a radio voice that was different than your actual speaking voice? I used to emcee for athletic and academic competitions, talent shows, awards ceremonies, etc. I found after a short while, my voice became much deeper and resonant than I ever knew it could.

I don't know if you're familiar with a NYC-based DJ named Bruce Morrow -- "Cousin Brucie." I grew up listening to him on WABC. He had a very slick long-running syndicated oldies show that was on opposite me on a station in Albuquerque, 60 miles away but it boomed into Santa Fe. You know those guys who grew up idolizing Mantle or Schmidt or Griffey and then wind up facing them in the big leagues? That's how I felt competing against Cousin Brucie. Who was of course blissfully unaware of my existence. But I gave him a respectable losing battle in the Arbitrons!!

Hmmm, I'm not sure on that one Rizz. My radio persona was sort of a deliberate imitation of a fast-talking 1960s East Coast DJ. I was amazed going around town that people would recognize my voice -- "you're that guy on the radio." I can't tell you how many times people have asked me if I worked in radio. And I only really did it for three years.

I saw a piece on Cousin Brucie on television once, several years ago, but that is the only reason I had ever heard of him. I know he was a legend.

And I only really did it for three years. It was just the opposite for me. If I was off stage, no one knew it was my voice. Some friends were blown away when they realized it was me. A remember a group of students one time asked me how much we paid "that radio guy" to do all the events. Several dignitaries asked if I had been a radio or voice over guy, as I sometimes did impressions of co-workers, while they were visible to the audience or on stage. Once one of my bosses said, "For a second, I thought someone had recorded me, until I realized what was being said," which were ridiculous, non-sensical things for laughs.

Looking at the boxscore looks like we beat up on the Orioles. Deivi and Gil pitched well and we got good offensive contributions from Gallo, Stanton, DJ, Gleyber, and Falafel.
