That doesn't make any sense to me and is a cop out for a bad replay system. You're either out or your safe, it shouldn't be relevant how close the play is. The rule is you have to have clear and convincing evidence to overturn the call. That is the same rule in football. I watched the replay in slow motion and could not tell. The Yankee announcers, who have seen a lot of baseball also could not decide. Maybe they should change the rule and use the technology they have? Or maybe we can keep just keep it the way it is and keep missing calls and wasting time. |

That's strange, the White Sox announcers thought he was out until they took so much time looking at and their homers, they hoped the play would stand, so Chicago would catch a break. Football has the pylon cameras. Baseball could have the front of first base camera, coordinated with the other cameras. Or, there could be a sensor in the front of the plate like there is when swimmers touch the end of the pool. Not difficult, if they really wanted to get the call right every time. |
