Boone has said that after Chappy gets back, Holmes probably won’t close, but will come in at key moments, whether closing or not. I’m not sure he would have pitched the ninth unless with the short leash philosophy… Bit Chapman is not back. I think he rushed himself into this move. I was hoping for King… I would have been impressed if Boone used Holmes for the 8th to protect the lead then brought in another pitcher for the 9th but I don't think that was going to happen. I just don't want this pen gassed in October, like we've seen in the past, there's no reason for it with this staff. That is what I thought he was going to do, put out the fire in the eighth and call upon someone else with no one on in the ninth, but still you have to give your reliever time to get ready, and Boone knew he was bringing Cole back in for the eighth, so there was no excuse not to have Holmes or anyone else ready to go the first instance the no hitter was gone. |

We’ve been lucky that Boone hasn’t had enough maneuverability to misuse the pen for quite a while. Yesterday he decided to play genius for some reason and ruined Holmes streak while almost losing us a ballgame. I hope he learned from it… |

The top of Rays order was coming up, was the right call. Asking Holmes to get a 5 out save in June is terrible decision in my opinion. That I can understand, but I like giving Holmes that part of the order in the 8th rather than waiting to use him in the 9th. |

I wonder if anyone in the media asked Boone after the game if Holmes would have come back for the 9th if the Yanks had the lead? |
