What a ridicolous way to lose a 10 series streak here kill them the first game then not score for roughly 20 innings while the Mariners score 1 run. Then score and immediately give it right back up. Yeah. That's pretty terrible.

Since the Yankees reached their best won-lost percentage at 50-18, they have gone 21-23. That's over a quarter of the season playing bad baseball.
Since gaining their largest lead of 15.5 games, the Yankees have gone an atrocious 10-18.
The good news is that Toronto is not maximizing this abysmal performance. If the Yankees can play .500 ball the rest of the season (25-25), Toronto would have to go 37-15 to pass them.
Of course that would likely mean no home field advantage against Houston, and it wouldn't be much fun watching them limp to the finish line, but even a slight improvement over the crap of the past six weeks would probably get them a bye. Not what I would wish for, but I'm looking for positives here.

Not what I would wish for, but I'm looking for positives here. It's weird, because 30 games over .500 is a pretty big accomplishment. Last season at this point SF was the only team 30 games over 500. This season there is 2 in each league (Yankees, Astros, Dodgers, Mets). So they've gone from 32 games above .500 to 30 games above .500 not much of a drop. However..as you said because the rest of the AL is so terrible in comparison (every team, but Houston is 10 games or more behind the Yankees in the standings and no-one else is even more than 10 games above .500 the Yankees are in pretty good shape for that bye, but they still have a +204 run differential, they still lead the majors in R, HR, RBI, BB, and top 3 in OBP, SLG, and OPS. Yet the lineup/roster construction here is a HUGE problem. The rest is out of control. Sending guys down that could be helping the team in Schmidt and Marciano. Then now all this baserunning stuff coming up again? Until these last couple series they were still winning series regardless of the issues, but since the KC series they have lost 3 series in a row when in 2 of them they won the first game handily.

What an archaic system it is to have a kid like Marinaccio shipped out bc he has "options" left. It's actually more novel than archaic. This is Hal/Cashman baseball. Build depth at AAA, never go with a hot hand, rest everyone no matter the situation, and if someone looks like they can play in the big leagues, delay the clock on free agency until they lose hope and begin to mail it in. Marinaccio would have been pitching for Torre and Buck and Stick. The guy was dominating at the big league level. Same with King last season. But, guys like Darren O'Day and Justin Wilson have to get hurt to lose their spots. They are keeping Abreu in case something happens to Abreu - like an injury - they can bring up Marinaccio.

They really need to go into Fenway and sweep them. Really need like 7 of their next 10 to get some momentum back. Yes these are division teams, but they are a combined 21-11 against these teams and need to continue that.

Small sample. All he needs to do is strand the next 10, and he’ll be better than average. And that will still be a small sample…
