And Harper is coming back from a broken thumb and was out for two months. If Cashman was patient and waiting one more year, instead of trading for Stanton, he could have signed Harper or Machado. Two of the best players in the game. Machado is having a rather quiet great season. |

I remember my friend Joe always thought we should have made a play for Harper in free agency. He would have added that edge and he can actually hit, unlike Donaldson. He would have been a monster in Yankee Stadium. Seeing Harper close up in Philly, I have to say he has really matured and is a natural leader and balls to the wall player. They love the guy here. Passion isn't lacking in that guy either. There's a fire that you do not see in Torres, Sandwich, Hicks. |

I like those lefty bats in Yankee Stadium and 2 out of every 3 pitchers is a righty. Left-handed hitters have an advantage, if for nothing more than they are closer to first base. Big difference in subtracting one to one and a half steps to the bag. |

J.P. Sears tonight against Baltimore: 6 IP, 6H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K Cashman once admitted a few years ago that he was not a great evaluator of talent - that wasn't his strength. Unfortunately, there isn't a much better trait for a GM - like Gene "Stick" Michael. If he isn't a good evaluator of talent, what is he good at? Why does he have a lifetime pass at GM? |

He's a workaholic, is always working the phones, and is pleasant to other GMs - all traits of an excellent secretary. |

But I concur, he's not my ideal player. In fairness, I was happy enough when the Yanks got Stanton, although I wanted Yelich more as long as the Marlins were giving away players. |
