I'm going for the reverse jinx. Don't believe Yanks have won one game this season when I started the thread. Hicks and Higgy get starts while Peraza still sits. Boone is the worst. Desousa’s reverse jinx worked! 😂 Sorry I couldn't join you guys. I'd like to thank my dead Polish grandmother for helping with the reverse jinx.

Yumpin' Yiminy, I never knew Sterling actually acted out those calls. It looks like nice young men in clean white coats should be approaching him carefully with nets and a straitjacket before transporting him to the Happy Home. Did you know that Sterling started his sports broadcasting career calling games for the Baltimore Bullets (who since morphed into the Capital Bullets, the Washington Bullets and now the Washington Wizards) in 1970-71? That was a great team, with Wes Unseld, Gus "Honeycomb" Johnson, Jack Marin, Earl "The Pearl" Monroe and Kevin Loughery. They had enough foresight to bounce him after one season. Also in the 70s he did a cable Yankees highlights program with Mel Allen. I would love to know what Mel thought of Sterling's antics, although I think he was more restrained back then. When we were living in NYC in the early 2000s, after Kay went over to the TV side Sterling was paired for a few years with Charlie Steiner. More ham than a Hormel slaughterhouse. It was so bad that we thought it would have to be an improvement when Suzyn came aboard in 2005. Wrong again.

I used to watch the Bullets in those days, but I wasn’t aware that John Sterling had been announcing the games… huh! Once again, you’re memory amazes me, Mr. Pipps…

Once again, you’re memory amazes me, Mr. Pipps… They were on channel 11 and I was a fanatical NBA guy back then. The only reason I knew it was one year was because Sterling mentioned it himself during some interview. He also did Morgan State football while he was loitering in Baltimore. At that same time, a much better broadcaster, Jim Karvellas, was doing Bullets radio games on WBAL. Karvellas was also doing Orioles games with Chuck Thompson and Bill O'Donnell. That Bullets team upset the defending champion Knicks in the playoffs. Gene Shue, who I interviewed many times when he was coaching the 76ers, coached Baltimore that year. He was a Baltimore boy and had been an outstanding point guard for the Pistons in the 50s and 60s. He passed away a few months ago at age 90.

Bader knows how to party. This guy and Cabrera are my two new favorites. Bader is the early pick for the David Wells post-game celebration award.
