I must admit that I felt sorry for Hicks last season, even to the point of being concerned for his physical and mental well being. Even though we have some good-looking prospects coming up, nothing would please me more than seeing Hicks, Donaldson, and DJLM all playing their best baseball and making the kids have to work hard to earn positions. That’s the way it should always be. It shouldn’t be impossible for youth to overcome the veterans, but should be a tough fight. I felt a bit less sorry for Donaldson because he remained so smug, and I suffered with DJ because I know he can still play. Injuries stink, but they’re a constant in the sport… |

I think Boone is crazy if he really thinks JD will have a bounce back year. And really, define what a bounce back year is? Right, Donaldson's bat speed will just magically return. |

A Bounce Back Year for Donaldson would be: 1. To get injured so he would go on the injury lost and stop taking up a Roster Spot. 2. To cut a deal with the Yanks to leave and stop taking taking up a Roster Spot. 3. To DEMAND to get traded even if it is to a team in Japan/Korea and stop taking up a Roster Spot. 4. To admit he just sucks and his skill set will never return so he RETIRES and stop taking up a Roster Spot. 1. Hicks needs to do the same -- see above.

I think now is the right time to make the switch. I’d rather we feature elite defense at SS, and I believe Peraza can give us that, along with a bat that will be more than adequate for the position. A half season in AAA would be enough to prep Volpe for the move at the MLB level… |

After the interview, someone in a sombrero handed Boone a dictionary dog-eared to the definitions of possibility and probability. Boone said he didn't have his glasses, but they were on the bill of his Yankee cap. Cashman and Boone searched for two hours for the glasses, while everyone else placed bets. |
