Volpe’s fielding pct. Has dropped below average for AL SS in 2023. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s something to be aware of. His range factor is a bit under average as well. Perhaps the Yankee scouting is making him look better than he is by virtue of his positioning. The eye test is great to me, but now I have to discipline myself to do my due diligence as well. Easily IKF's best game of the season. We could use that kind of play from him for the rest of the season. Would love it if he turned into what we expected Benintendi to be. There was little reason to believe he had suddenly turned into Aaron Hicks. It was only a matter of time until he adjusted to being shuttled off the bench and from position to position and could focus more on his offensive game. As a complimentary piece, he’s not going to be Judge any time soon. But if he can be the player we acquired, I’m content… |

Here are some things I noted. Someone inspected German’s hand. I’m not sure who does that. Is it the home plate ump? The crew chief? I’m thinking that this decision is one that can be made between the two of them. Why have all 4 umpires come over and have a meeting? I’m the end, I believe the length of the meeting, the ejection procedure, the extended time for Hamilton to get into the game, Hamilton’s subsequent removal due to injury added up to significant delays. In turn, I believe Gausman was negatively affected by his extended stay on the bench. Good for us, I guess. As far as German is concerned, Severino replaces him, so not a devastating loss, really. He seems to be one of those characters around whom drama thrives. I understand that he’s probably on the Yankees for the remainder of 2023, but we really need to send his raincloud someplace else by this winter… |
