Sorry, my brother came over. I was watching the game downstairs with him. Though it was a tough loss I was encouraged by Gray and Betances' performance. Betances was encouraging again tonight. If your brother comes over again and the Yankees have another winning streak snapped, he should no longer be invited until after the World Series. On the other hand, we did well when you took your Dad to the strip club, so you may consider that the next time he drops by your house.

Sad loss. Houston's pitching continues to be our daddy...We need to be able to go toe to toe with these guys. Win some lose some. Hit them hard some days, get shut down some days. Three more to go in this series, let's see if the team has it in 'em to pound them and get back on the winning track...

I fell asleep in my chair for this one, but not until Sonny had shown a good performance. Never knew Betances had been in the game until I read this thread. Yard work over the weekend, including some hearty roto-tilling, and a full day of work today was apparently a bit more than I was able to take without napping at some point... (:
I was really happy to see Gray looking better. He not only attacked the hitters, but he appeared to work much faster than he had since acquired last season...Torres with a big hit. If the rest of the team had joined him, he would have been credited with sparking a winning rally...

11 strikeouts for the Yanks thru 8 innings. This was a problem for them in the ALCS too. 2-1 is a familiar score too.

Yankees' Sonny Gray will keep pitching to backup catcher Austin RomineNew York Yankees pitcher Sonny Gray appears, for the short term at least, to be getting a personal catcher. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said following Gray's strong six-inning, two-run, four-hit outing Monday that the right-hander likely would get another game with help from Austin Romine, the backup catcher who has caught his past two starts. That help, Boone contends, primarily is the product of nuances in the schedule. "His next start is probably Saturday when we're home [against Cleveland], which will be a day game after a night game," Boone said. "So especially in those kind of scenarios like here where we travel and got in in the middle of the night and where you know Gary [Sanchez] is going to be down. "At least in the short term we'll do that [with Gray and Romine] and hopefully get to a point to where it doesn't matter." www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/23370974/new-york-yankees-pitcher-sonny-gray-keep-throwing-backup-catcher-austin-romine

It just appears that Stanton decides to swing before the pitch is delivered.

It just appears that Stanton decides to swing before the pitch is delivered. He keeps taking pitches right down the middle and swinging at balls out of the zone.

For those who don't recall it, Stanton was only a .249 hitter in 2013 and he hit .240 in 2016. He's prone to slumps, and fortunately he's also prone to long hot stretches. All we can do is wait until he figures this one out and cheer when he hit's the ball. The slump he had in 2016 was a real doozy. I remember him hitting like .116 for a month or so...

Pickles pitched better. I like what the Yanks are doing with asking their pitchers to be less predictable with the fastball and use all their other pitches, but I think they might want to leave him alone and let him pitch how he wants to. When he pitches backwards he has less room for error and his fastball works when he spots it but not when they know its coming.

He pitched well in Houston.. and the difference was he used his fastball way more than any other start this year. There's not a cookie cutter fix for any player.. gotta go with what works for them.. and throwing mostly of speed does not work with Gray. Can't wait to see his next start. Also can't wait to see CC and his sub 2 ERA. Glad Boone didn't binder him and pull him just because if what inning it was. And most of all.. can't wait to see Sevy later on today
