Read a headline today that said something like this: "Andujar & Torres = Help Streaking Yankees!"
WE just loved it when Prospects perform well and exceed expectations.
"FORM A BOX: Hold, Hold, Hold The Box to Protect OUR Prospects; for THEY are Our FUTURE!!!"

Finally get in the win column at the Stadium. Right before the top of the 8th the wife says "should we get going soon to beat the crowd since they are winning by a lot?" Jinx! Luckily Miggy Two Baggers got her off the hook in the 9th.

"...well, the movie has been enjoyable so far, we should leave now to get home early..."

Great win, but concerned about our rotation since German can’t be expected to give much length and Warren is out ( probably for 3 more weeks). Kahnly out also, Stanton doing his Dave Kingman imitation and Gardner stinking it up. Wait a minute, we’re 1 game out with Drury due back soon, Bird on the horizon and Sheffield just promoted to Scranton, and oh yeah, Frazier already raking ? Still, lack of SP is worrying. I agree, the team could use one more innings eating starter. Hopefully Gray can turn things around because I'm not sure what is out there in the trade market. At least Boone isn't pulling CC out of games in the fifth inning like Girardi was prone to do. I think Girardi's binder had CC limited to 75 pitches, no matter how good his stuff was and on pitch 76 he completely lost faith and though CC would automatically implode...That's also a portion of innings eating. The manager has to be in on it...Every out by the starter is precious and one less needed by the bullpen...We need to see more two-inning relief stints, too...(he's been lamenting for years and years and years)...

We need to see more two-inning relief stints, too...(he's been lamenting for years and years and years)...We got one yesterday with Chad. Yes we did. And it played out very well for us, too...The idea that a professional pitcher can only throw 15 pitches or so in a day is so stupid to me...And it doesn't always have to be two innings. It could be 1 2/3, or 2 1/3 if the guy is on and is throwing nice and loose and easy. We don't have to use four or five relief pitchers in every game. Match-ups are often over-rated, especially with the bases empty... Bullpen role play: "Tommy, we acquired you specifically to play the role of fifth inning rally-squelcher vs. left handed hitters with ground ball tendencies and high walk rates. We'll be using you in domed stadiums on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but make sure you're ready to come in during Saturday games if the dome is closed. We would like to avoid using you in specific spots where the barometric pressure is below 29.55 or the wind is coming out of the south at more than 17 miles per hour. We might use you against a right handed hitter if he has off-field hitting tendencies that indicate that we wouldn't use a shift against him, but we'll ask you to avoid throwing your slider in those situations. If we find ourselves in extra innings, all bets are off and we could call on you in any inning past the thirteenth, but we'll limit you to no more than seven pitches in those situations. Are you up for this role, Tommy"???

While I have never fully understood how pitchers can on one day be lights out and another be throwing meatballs, it happens more commonly than one might suppose...........given that, the Cone remarks the other day deserve some consideration...when you use 4 or 5 pitchers in a game, are you just searching for the pitcher who is having the "meatball" day? I think there is something to be said for staying longer with the hot pitcher.....

I think there is something to be said for staying longer with the hot pitcher..... I think what has been done to starting pitchers is near-criminal. It used to be that a starter would NEVER be pulled with a shut out going. It was a point of pride to see if you could get the job done yourself. So, NEVER may have been wrong, but things went overboard to the point that it's rare to see a complete-game shutout by a starting pitcher...I think there are more injuries today because the pitchers are babied too much...starting in high school, maybe even in little league...Although I can see them being "babied" if they over-use their rattle while in the crib...and I'm okay with it...
