This doesn't make sense. Rortvedt was already in the minors these season, so he has to have options.

I was thinking with the Pereira and Dominquez promotions the natural chain reaction would be Spencer Jones going to Somerset, but I haven't heard anything about him yet.

Anyway, glad to see EP and OP up. This is possible. I'm def excited to see these guys, but obv proceed with caution on if they are in the plans for 2024. Even if they perform a bit now I don't think it's the smartest idea to just throw Gleyber in the river next year. Without the Judge and Rizzo injuries this team was probably a playoff team anyway, but obv wasn't good enough to still get by Houston or even Texas in the ALCS and with this fanbase and the drought of World Series appearances I have to think there's going to be some kind of signing for an above average player or trade for a better one Bellinger in off season? something like that. With how badly this season is going I don't think the Yankees want to have like a whole bunch of prospects in the lineup and struggle all at the same time. They still are missing at least one veteran power source that they need badly. Very similar to how Cabrera, Peraza, Volpe all as everyday players all the same time wasn't going to work on this team going into this season and as expected only 1 stuck and had success and was allowed to be an everyday player. Some people are comparing this to the Orioles, but while the Orioles are going to make the playoffs we dunno if that roster is talented enough to actually win playoff series or they will just be the Rays right now where they have success in the regular season, but the lack of veterans/stars hold them back from going very far.

The other issue I have with the Orioles/Rays is I just don't buy the Yankees/Red Sox are going to be in this hole of being meh for very long. Both teams have the money to outspend the other teams and eventually both always rise to the top of the standings. We've seen it with the Rays and since the Orioles owner is cheap it's probably going to happen with them too. The line I hate the most in sports is "the future is bright" when a team gets close to winning a championship, but doesn't get it because they are inexperienced in someway hole in roster etc. 90% of the time "that bright future" never amounts to anything and they can't sustain being good over a long period of time, because their owner is too cheap or they can't get star players to come there. A good example is the Bengals in the NFL. They were super close to winning the superbowl two years ago they were the trendy pick last year, but what happened ? They ran into Patrick Mahomes and he wasn't going to lose to them twice. You have to think with while the Yankees and Red Sox both have issues the fact they have Judge/Cole on the Yankees and Devers on the Red Sox that eventually is always going to rise both teams to the top of the standings more often that not versus a team without that type of player.
Just look at the Rays trajectory. 2008 to 2013 all 90+ win seasons except for 2009. Couple division titles, 4 playoff appearances, 1 World Series appearance. However then 2014-2018 mediocre to bad teams again, because the Red Sox won 2 World Series in that time, the Yankees went back to the ALCS in 2017, and the Blue Jays in 2015/2016 were having those years where Donaldson and Bautista were just killing teams. Which again goes back to the team with the superstar player or players has the more overall success in the end. Then 2019-2022 couple more division titles, another World Series appearance in a 60 game season, but once again can't get past the superstar teams of the Astros, Dodgers, Red Sox in the playoffs.
It will be very interesting whoever gets Ohtani if that will propel them to the next level. I still don't believe the Yankees or anyone in the ALCS will get him. I think the Mariners are the favorites, but we will see.

Yea, but with Ben Rortvedt batting .095 isn't now the time to just see what Wells has for 40 games or so see if the bat translates to majors and as you said see if a position change is necessary?

Every scout has stated he needs to be moved from the catching position. I've seen a few of his games behind the plate, he is a good receiver, but his defense is brutal. We know the bat is there. Yankees are trying to keep him a premium position as trade bait when clearly he doesn't belong there.
