From MLB. Com
Jan. 17: Yankees eyeing Stephenson, Neris for bullpen help (reports) After adding Marcus Stroman to their starting rotation, the Yankees now appear to be focused on upgrading their bullpen. They have already been linked to the best closer on the open market, Josh Hader, but their search goes beyond the coveted left-hander.
MLB Network insider Jon Paul Morosi said Wednesday that the Yanks are one team that has been connected to right-hander Robert Stephenson. They are also interested in righty Hector Neris, according to MLB insider Héctor Gómez.
Stephenson dominated for the Rays last year following a midseason trade from the Pirates. In 38 1/3 innings with Tampa Bay, he struck out 60 batters and walked only eight. He recorded a 2.35 ERA, a 0.68 WHIP and limited hitters to a .138 batting average.
Neris recorded a 3.46 ERA through his first nine MLB seasons before enjoying a career year with the Astros in 2023. His season included a 1.71 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP over 71 appearances. Gómez reports that Neris, 34, is seeking a three-year deal worth $50 million.

Well, let’s see. In 2022 he caught one inning. And he pitched three innings (39.00 ERA). Maybe he’s replacing IKF… 🤓 Thats just garbage bin diving by cashman I was joking. If the guy ever appears in a game for us it’s going to mean we’re in worse shape than last year… and that would be sad…

The Yankees signed ANOTHER infielder...Josh VanMeter. Well that's definitely the end of Torres Yankee career now that we have VanMeter

Admittedly, I don't follow the MR market very closely, but almost $17MM over three years for a middling guy coming off a career year. Yikes.

Why is everyone in a fit over a minor league signing? The club signs a bunch of players every winter to minor league deals with 90% of them never seeing the Bronx.

Clipper Perhaps most Yankee fans expect another couple of signings to bolster the rotation and bullpen, hoping the minor league fodder news doesn't mean the Yankees are done this off-season?

Clipper After last season can you blame them? At the end of every MLB season, the 6-year minor league players become free agents, the farm system sees a turn over of players leaving the organization. Clipper

ClipperYou did say this though : Sadly the MLB has turned the AAA teams into basically taxi squads, real young talent is playing at the AA level. So maybe that is why people are getting upset about these minor league signings? I mean all these garbage bin signings by cashman have been part of those taxi squads you talked about . Especially last season

Keep seeking at that price. I like Neris but I don't want to overpay for his career year.
