Gary Phillips: Aaron Boone said Anthony Volpe's x rays came back clean. Just a contusion as of now. Boone's not sure if he'll play tomorrow. #Yankees

Francys Romero: With the $750,000 acquired in the Caleb Ferguson trade, the New York Yankees now have $1,483,200 in their international budget.
It isn't yet clear if Roki Sasaki will be posted this offseason, but MLB teams are getting prepared.

NYY Stats: Yankees home series this season First 9: 7-0-2 Last 9: 1-7-1 So strange. I guess most of this is because of the pitchers.

From MLB Rumors 8/9/2024
Yankees Acquire Cam Eden From Blue Jays By Steve Adams | August 9, 2024 at 12:49pm CDT
The Yankees announced Friday that they’ve acquired Outfielder Cam Eden in a trade sending cash back to the Blue Jays. He’s been assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the time being.
Eden, 26, was Toronto’s 6th-round pick back in 2019. He briefly made his big league debut late last season, appearing in 5 games and going 1-for-6 with a pair of strikeouts. The Jays removed him from the 40-man roster after the season, outrighting him to Triple-A Buffalo. Because Eden was not on the Jays’ 40-man roster at any point this season, he’s eligible to be traded even after the major league trade deadline.

While Eden isn’t likely to factor heavily into the Yankees’ plans down the stretch, he’s a Triple-A piece at a time when Everson Pereira is out for the season and Jasson Dominguez could soon get a call to the big leagues. Eden is also a potential bench/pinch-running option in September or even in the postseason, if the Yankees choose to dedicate a roster spot to someone with that type of specialized skill set. He’s hitting just .198/.299/.322 with a 27.4% strikeout rate this season, but he’s also swiped 26 bags in 33 tries. This is his 2nd run through the Triple-A level; Eden hit .257/.354/.333 there last year and stole 53 bases in 57 attempts.
Eden has played all 3 outfield spots in his pro career. The Cal product has spent the bulk of his time in center field. FanGraphs Eric Longenhagen ranked him at the back of the Jays’ top-34 prospects back in 2022, touting Eden’s plus speed, quick 1st step in center and base-running acumen — while also noting that lack of offensive upside that limits his ceiling.

LATEST NEWS
Aug. 10: CF Trent Grisham leaves game after getting hit by pitch on left hand Grisham left the opener of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rangers in the 5th inning after getting hit on the left hand by a pitch from left-hander Brock Burke. There was no immediate word on his condition. Grisham remained in the game after being hit in the 4th and scored on a double by Aaron Judge. In the top of the 5th, Grisham left and was replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera, who went to 3rd base with Jazz Chisholm Jr. moving from 3rd to center field.
Aug. 10: RHP Ron Marinaccio added as 27th man for doubleheader This marks Marinaccio’s 4th stint with the club this season. He has a 2.84 ERA in 13 appearances. Marinaccio has held lefty hitters to a slash line of .139/.244/.278.

New York Post | Mark W. Sanchez: It’s been a bit of a rough stretch for the Yankee rotation the past several weeks, with Nestor Cortes and Marcus Stroman in particular struggling. On Saturday, the Yankees got one step closer to a key member of the pitching staff returning from injury. Clarke Schmidt, out since late May, threw 25 pitches in a simulated game. Schmidt, who had a sterling 2.52 ERA over 11 starts prior to injury, thinks he could be back on a big-league mound by the end of August. Aaron Boone sounded a bit more cautious on a timetable, but Schmidt is definitely progressing.

X | SNY: I wouldn’t exactly be running out to put money on Spencer Jones getting traded this offseason, but Andy Martino reported Saturday that Jones is no longer completely untouchable. At the deadline, New York made it clear that they were open to listening on Jones, though it sounds like they’ll need blown away. Martino specically mentioned Tigers ace Tarik Skubal as the type of player the Yanks would consider moving Jones to acquire.

NYY Stats: Jazz Chisholm Jr with Yankees (12 Games)
.300 BA | 7 HR | 11 RBI | 3 SB | 1.092 OPS
He’s the second player in MLB history with at least 7 HR and 3 SB in his first 12 games with any team (Garrett Jones: 2009 PIT)
His 1.092 OPS is the best by a Yankee thru his first 12 games with the club (min. 50 PA) since Roger Maris (1.451) in 1960

Kevin Hickey of The Sporting News: Since the start of July, Wells has a .308 batting average, five home runs, 20 RBI and a .931 OPS. His 1.7 fWAR and .931 OPS are the best marks among all MLB catchers during that span.
To give Trevino the full split with Wells from before the injury would be a controversial decision considering how well the rookie has played since being given the starting role.
If anything, Trevino should be moved down the depth chart as the backup catcher while giving Wells the starting reigns for the remainder of the season.
