Don't look now but the Yankees are tied again for the best record in baseball. Also, Aaron Judge is second in the major leagues in batting average, behind only Bobby Witt, Jr.

Could New York Yankees target Amed Rosario to replace Jazz Chisholm? New York baseball fans will be familiar with Rosario after he was a top prospect for the Mets seven years ago. While he did not grow into the star they hoped for, he has proven to be a competent everyday player at the big-league level. Amed Rosario stats (2024): .305 AVG, .331 OBP, .415 SLG, 2 HR, 28 RBI, 26 R, 10 SB While he doesn’t bring the pop to the order that Chisholm does, Rosario is having a good season at the plate and is batting over .300 during stints with the Tampa Bay Rays and Dodgers. However, similar to Chisholm he can play second, shortstop, and in the outfield. But being familiar with playing in New York is a big advantage when adding any player for a playoff run in the city. Rosario isn’t a perfect replacement for Chisholm, but he would not come at a high cost, could prove to make a worthwhile impact, and makes a lot of sense as a short-term fix for the hole in the lineup. sportsnaut.com/new-york-yankees-jazz-chisholm-replacement-amed-rosario/

Caleb Durbin Is the Yankees’ Best Option to Replace Jazz Chisholm After putting up solid numbers in Double-A last season, Caleb Durbin opened the 2024 season with the Triple-A Scranton RailRiders, and he’s arguably been their best player. While an injury sustained after being hit by a pitch has limited him to just 53 games at the highest level of Minor League Baseball, he’s put up incredible numbers, slashing .301/.421/.480 with a 139 wRC+. His 9.5% strikeout rate and 16% Whiff Rate are reflective of his elite contact tool, but he’s found ways to improve the quality of his contact as well. Isolated Power measures a hitter’s game power by subtracting their AVG from their SLG% (SLG% – BA), and the average mark in the International League this season is .166. Durbin has a.179, meaning he’s generating game power at an above-average clip, and that’s thanks to a couple of changes in his batted ball profile. He is no longer just a slap hitter forcing contact; Durbin is lifting the ball at a higher frequency while pulling it 57.6% of the time as well. He ranks in the 89th Percentile in Pulled Flyball Rate, and it’s allowed him to overperform his underwhelming exit velocities. empiresportsmedia.com/new-york-yankees/the-yankees-should-consider-calling-up-interesting-24-year-old-infield-prospect/

The Yankees tried to add him during the offseason but he wanted to sign somewhere he could start. The Dodgers are loaded and had to decide between him and Kiki Hernandez. Problem for the Yankees is that he has to go through waivers. He'll be claimed before he gets to the NYY.

I know they like kiki, but he's hitting .216 with a sub .300 on base percentage. The Dodgers are like the Yankees, loaded at the top with star players, but the second half of their lineup is lousy. It could cost them in the post season.

Maybe the glasses helped, maybe he just went into a hot streak...but the Dodgers bought into it.

From MLB Rumors 8/14/2024
Aaron Judge going for home run No. 300:
Yankees outfielder and AL MVP frontrunner Aaron Judge has been sitting on 299 career home runs since Sunday, when he took Rangers southpaw Andrew Chafin deep for his MLB-leading 42nd homer of the season. With his next long ball, Judge will become the 162nd player in MLB history to join the 300-homer club. He will also, almost surely, become the fastest player to hit 300 home runs. That honor currently belongs to Ralph Kiner, who hit his 300th home run in his 1,087th career game. Judge has played just 954 games since his MLB player debut in 2016. In other words, Judge will become the fastest player to reach the 300-homer mark whether he hits his next bomb today, next week, or next month. However, he’ll have a pretty good shot tonight, as the Yankees play their final game of the season against the hapless White Sox. White Sox pitchers have given up the third-most home runs in MLB this season (157).

I hope Peraza has learned to hit a fastball.

I hope Peraza has learned to hit a fastball. Gonna be interesting if he has. Chisholm has shown to be capable of taking over at 3B. Peraza has always been, primarily, a SS...I think it's safe to say he's a better glove there than Volpe...GG aside. I think it was always assumed Volpe would be moved to 2B...Peraza to SS. It'll be interesting to see how it all works out in '25.
