Listening to a Yankee podcast, Locked On Yankees, the host stated that Clayton Beeter is warming the bullpen bench for the expected return of Tommy Kahnle in a couple of weeks.

The Bad: Most Overrated MLB Teams Entering the 2024 Season twsn.net/2024/03/most-overrated-mlb-teams-entering-the-2024-season1. New York Yankees Another AL East “powerhouse” finds themselves topping the list. The Yankees made a splash in the offseason acquiring All-Star Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres. The pairing of Soto and Aaron Judge should do wonders in Yankee Stadium. That’s not the concern. The concern is the rest of the lineup. Anthony Volpe took over the starting shortstop role from Opening Day last season and posted a .209/.283/.383 slash line in his first year. Will he bounce back or have even more of a “sophomore slump?” Gleyber Torres had a very productive ‘23 campaign. Not really an issue there. Anthony Rizzo had his best season as a Yankee, but keeps getting older and older as time ticks on. DJ LeMahieu will start on the IL which leaves the door open for Oswaldo Cabrera and Kevin Smith to take the starting third base spot. It’ll probably go to Cabrera who played 115 games last season and posted a .211 avg with 72 strikeouts. Giancarlo Stanton will remain the team’s DH and will look to bounce back from a “down” season in terms of average. The Yankees will be without ace Gerrit Cole for at least what seems to be two months and according to ESPN insider Buster Only, could be sidelined for the year due to nerve inflammation and edema. Luis Gil will be the answer to the question of “who will be the Yankees fifth starter?”, after putting up an impressive showcase in Spring Training. The official rotation will be Nestor Cortes, Carlos Rodon, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, and Gil. Cortes lost the mojo he had from his All-Star 2022 season last year, Carlos Rodon had a horrendous first season with the Yankees, Stroman will be coming off a All-Star season with the Cubs after he posted a 10-9 record with a 3.95 ERA, and Schmidt and Gil have a lot to learn and prove to be full time options for the Yankees. The bullpen took some hits in the offseason but Clay Holmes and Jonathan Loaisaga remain a good one-two punch. So why do I think the Yankees are overrated? Well, they’re the Yankees. This team has made the postseason six of the last seven years and have failed to make a World Series since. And with the AL East now loaded enough to where they finished fourth with a record of 82-80, what exactly is supposed to change? Yeah Juan Soto will improve this team by himself, but are we able to justify that only Juan Soto will get them over the hump? Including the loss of Gerrit Cole? I don’t think so. I still think the Orioles and Rays at least finish ahead of them. And if they do make the playoffs, do we trust them to do anything with it? I don’t.

Interesting opposing views, jiminy. I guess they’re going to have to play the games to find out…. 🤓

Just so you know guys that Baseball Reference projection with us finishing with 71 wins is based on looking back at the team's last 100 games and will shift dramatically as the new season begins:

I hope it does. I do think 71 wins is at least 8-9 wins lower than my worst case scenario.

Had Rizzo never gotten concussed - a freak accident with Fernando Tatis, Jr. in San Diego - we would have won 90 games. Adding Soto to that mix this season and an improved Stanton... God, we had Jake Bauers playing first base at the end of last season.

We never wore hats. Except some of the bald guys. They didn’t want anyone checking their head for finger holes…

NBC News | Katherine Itoh: Oscar Gonzalez suffered a freak injury on Monday night in Mexico City. He fractured his orbital bone on his own foul ball. Gonzalez had already been reassigned to Triple-A where he will attempt to develop his offensive game in hopes of regaining his 2022 lightning. It’s not clear how long it’ll be until he gets to do that.
