How the hell did the Orioles muster 13 hits but no runs against the Red Sox?

Cole should forever be our designated closer with a nine run lead...

[img class="smile" src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/lCwAHotCLxclGoHYBUrv.gif" alt=" "] Bad teams find ways to suck...That is the 12th such shutout in MLB history, BTW. The record was a nifty 14 hitter way back in 1928. It was the second game of a double header on July 10th, and Milt Gaston pitched a complete game shutout that day. Gaston fanned two and walked two that day in raising his record for the season to 3-7...

I was also remembering a game in 1964 in which Jim "Mudcat" Grant pitched a complete game shutout for Minnesota, the only shutout Grant would pitch that season enroute to a typical 11-9 mark. Grant would have his best season the next year when he went 21-7 with 6 shutouts in spite of serving up a league high 34 home runs. That was the year Minnesota won the AL pennant with a 102-60 record before losing to the Dodgers in seven games in the World Series. That pennant resulted in one of the oddest MVP selections in the history of MLB. Zoilo Versalles hit .273/.317/.462 that season while leading the league in AB (666), Runs (126), Doubles (45) Triples (12) and hit 19 homers driving in 77 runs. He stole 27 and was caught only 5 times. Pretty good, but not great numbers. He led the league in strikeouts that season with 122. To top it off Versalles made a league-leading 39 errors at SS while fielding .950 AND WON THE GOLD GLOVE AWARD!!!

Big fan of Bird and I hope he is back with the team but you can’t take Austin’s job away given how well he has played. It would make for a nice platoon. Austin can look helpless against good righties; he's exceptional against lefties. That is an option. They probably would need to carry one less pitcher to make that work.
