I don’t know if Billy Butler has been named, but he was one of the most ponderous runners and double play machines in history. And that was before his washed up Yankee days…
<What makes the Yanks think they can revive these washouts all the time?>…

P - Jose Rijo, 1984 Appeared in 24 games (5 starts) as a 19 year old with the Yankees in 1984, struggling to a 2-8 record with a 4.76 ERA. Was a part of the haul sent to Oakland that brought Rickey Henderson to the Bronx that offseason. Would spend 3 underwhelming seasons in Oakland before being traded to Cincinnati where he would become one of the best pitchers in baseball from the late-80s through the mid-90s before injuries derailed his career.

The Yankees try to pedal him off as their answer to the Mets young hurler Doc Gooden. Clipper

I was upset Yankees traded Montgomery for Bader who was at the time on IL. Especially now when Yankees let him walk garnering little if anything in return. My brother who turn in his pinstripes for our cross town rival decades ago thought it was a good trade. He said Mets had their sights on him.

He’s either cooked or just couldn’t take the pressure in pinstripes. This season will tell the story, I suppose…

I doubt it was the pressure, because he was probably the Yankees MVP in their postseason series vs the Guardians, he also hit .400 in the next postseason series vs the Astros.

One of the worst trade since cashman became GM . That deadline as a whole set them back for years

I certainly expected more out of Bader than what we got. He’s either cooked or just couldn’t take the pressure in pinstripes. This season will tell the story, I suppose… Cashman surprised me when he acquired Bader and baffled me when he released him. He told Yankee fans that he got him for his defense and let him 100 games later because his batting did not improve in New York. The deal says a lot more about Cashman than it does about Bader. Cashman doesn't know what kind of team he wants to build. And that is why he doesn't worry about getting tickets for family members to a World Series game.

Quite honestly, I like the way Bader set up for the catch and throw in the OF, but his throws were disappointing. Maybe he’s got a shoulder or elbow issue. He wasn’t vintage Bader out there…

For me the issue is how quickly Cash changes directions. Remember when having LH bats did not matter ? When you could not have enough elite bullpen arms ?

I’m guessing the off season changes on metrics may be affecting his decisions.

INF - Tom Brookens, 1989. Longtime Tigers infielder spent the 1989 season with the Yankees, mainly as a part-time starter at 3B until an injury in late July.

View AttachmentI don't remember Brookens ever playing for the Yankees in 1989, but I was away at college at the time and the Yanks weren't very good, so that might explain why.
