I wonder if this trade means that the Yanks believe DJ LeMahieu could be out of action longer than anticipated. Again, I have nothing but skepticism for ANY medical announcements made by this organization. DJ will be back when I see him on the field.

I am ok with the move. I thought Moustakas would have been a better fit only because I am always open to a LH power hitter. But Berti adds a speed element that the Yankees can use and can play SS/

Giving up a prospect for a 34 year old? Not my kind of trade! There are prospects, jeep, and then there are prospects. Cruz is very young, but a long way from the majors. Maybe he develops into a star for the Marlins, but at this point, the odds are long. MLB has him at #28 in the Yankees system with a grade of 40. Fangraphs doesn't have him in their top 36 at all. He's young enough and toolsy enough to have a big breakout in the next 2-3 years, but again, the odds are long at this point.
Now, as to the overall strategy...this trade is fine if the front office has a good handle on where this team is and believes its chance of serious contention are solid. But if, as I believe, the front office is overrating this team without Cole, then this trade is a waste of time and a small (at this point) but tangible asset. We'll see if I'm right or they are in the next 2-3 months.
One more thing: this trade shows that no matter what Boone and Cashman say, they have no faith that Cabrera can hit major league pitching often enough to hold a position for even a month.Yep, the more I see Cabrera the less I like him.

I don’t expect this one will get worn out much…

The Yankees are trading for some infield help. Berti has played most of his career with the Marlins and had a .344 OBP last season. It would have been nice if the Yankees didn't have to trade Cruz. But I understand why they made a win now trade. I always liked Berti because he's versatile and he pretty fast on the basepaths.

Berti doesn't have a lot of power but he's fast, stealing 41 bags in 2022 and 16 last year. Him and Volpe should be fun on the base paths. Plays good Defense too.
Yep, I forgot about his defense. In my opinion, the Yankees are a better team today than they were yesterday.

The law firm of Burdi, Berti and Beeter. Now that is brilliant. Desousa wins the internet today, we are taking no further entries.

It's okay Kaybli. You've already ruined Ann-Margret for me forever. You can't hurt me anymore.
