Huge win:
1) Cortes got beat up early, rallied, stayed in for five innings. 2) Yanks blew multiple opportunities, but kept pushing and rallied to tie and then take the lead against a tough reliever. 3) Yanks held off multiple rallies by Astros in late innings (by the skin of their teeth, but still, a win is a win).] 4) Beat a very tough team on their field to open the season.
Can't ask for much more than that.

I don't think I've seen a game thread this long. Nice! Wait ‘til Rizzuto gets home from work. He’s going to love this! … And I’m sure Chiyankee will eat it up, too. One of the best parts of retirement is not having to miss any games other than for a few other things I need to do. (Or sneak home early, or for a long “lunch”…

Great win! A four run deficit last year was game over. Abd, thanks for the play by play. Much better than watching the dots for those of us who don't get YES or MLB TV.

Who is the player of the game???? I'd give it to Soto for 2 walks, a hit, and the game saving defensive play!

Yanks win their opener and are 1-0 (duh), and *ahem*, tied for first after the first day of the season.
Game 2 tomorrow is also very big, as we get to see if Rodon will be 2023 Rodon, or the 2021-22 version. He'll oppose Cristian Javier of the disappearing fastball. Yanks never hit him until they finally did last year, twice.
Game is at 8:10, and unfortunately, the Apple+ TV crapola starts early this year. If I can find a gamecast of it somewhere, I'll join you guys in the chat. If not, enjoy the game and I'll be back with you Saturday.
