Not sure I agree with this ... opponents batting .133 and 2.75 ERA one year after recovering from TJS Looks like they are doing everything right to me. What makes you thaink he'll be gone soon? Just that he will hit free agency soon and the Yanks may not be willing to give him the money other teams might throw out there if they see the potential top of the line starter in him. I dont think they are letting Gil anywhere

I dont think they are letting Gil anywhere I'd have to agree at this point but just the fact that he would not have even gotten this opportunity if Cole was not hurt tells me the Yankees just did not know that they had. Never thought I would be glad that Cole went down but at this point they are right near the best record in MLB without their best pitcher, their best infielder and until recently one of their best bullpen arms and they now have another top of the rotation guy. If all were healthy and no innings limits applied I would have to put Gil as their no. 2 starter behind Cole assuming he's still himself or close to it.

That's a lifetime away in the construction of an MLB roster. If Cole wasn't hurt, you're probably right that Gil doesn't get this opportunity but it wasn't because the Yankees "didn't know what they had". They have said for a couple of years that Gil has the best "stuff" in the organization but it was raw and he was learning to harness his stuff. His command was the big question and it was early this season as well. To his credit, and to the credit of Blake as well as Cole and Stroman who have been serving as mentors, he's learning every time out there.

I don't know for sure, but I think it's going to be a few years before Gil becomes a free agent.
