Thirty four year old power pitchers tend to be poor investments...Twenty-two year old gold glove short stop capable players with a strong bat tend to be great investments...And this one can also do a bang (bangwaggon?) up job at second base...
That’s about all the case I can present for my side. You may cross examine, cross reference, be cross, or cross me off your Christmas Card list... (:
Now, if both players were made part of a more complicated transaction, I could still be tempted. Strasburg is in Washington, as is Rendon...and of course we’d need to add players to that for certain...
At this point, I’d have no clue what we’d do with Rendon... Unless we were sending yet another player to Washington out of our infield. See how complicated this whole thing gets? The way I see it... It ain’t happening anyway... (:

(: yes, true that.....it's not going to happen....my experience of watching has perhaps led me to value pitching more than some others do....the Yankees as now constituted would not make it through the playoffs, imo….I would add a top-notch pitcher to win this year and next...or at least be in a position to win....and I do a 1 for 1 trade with any of the infielders for Scherzer....Washington...you want Didi?....LeMahieu?...Voit?...Torres?...……..name your guy, and we have a deal.....but, I agree it's not going to happen... |

This team, the 2019 Yankees, are so close to being the best team in baseball.....at the same time, they have two potential adds in the second half of the season who could be difference-makers in German and Severino…add to that the return of Betances..
I wonder how Cashman and his crew project the probabilities of both returning with the effectiveness that both starters have shown in their early careers..
While many expect or at least hope, for a trade involving a front=line pitcher....it might be tempting for Cashman to stand pat if he cannot make such a deal for lesser prospects than Torres...

If the Yankees get an effective German back for the entire second half....and an effective Betances for the pen...and maybe...an effective Severino….this is going to be a team to be reckoned with in the playoffs, regardless of what adds, if any, come in trade...I am enjoying it all immensely...

I’m so hoping that we get the early 2019 version of German back. It’s quite possible, if his decline was did to the injury rather than league scouting. Heck, I’d take him back as in between the early season guy and what we got the last few starts before he was disabled...

Heck, I’d take him back as in between the early season guy and what we got the last few starts before he was disabled... in those early starts he had some filthy breaking stuff....and was consistent with it.....later his breaking stuff seemed less sharp, and he would hang some of them...I didn't sense that the hitters were figuring him out, because the early stuff seemed virtually unhittable... |

Nice audition for Wheeler but I think it would be really hard for the Yanks and Mets to come to terms on a deal. The Mets are a mess right now and they will want to be able to sell their fans that they got full value for Wheeler. Cashman doesn’t trade top prospects unless it is a sure thing. I don’t see it happening but the Yanks could do worse

I'm watching Detroit-White Sox game....I haven't seen much of Boyd before, but watching him now....he looks good....good fastball, and his slider and curve can tie hitters up...he has struck out 7 through 3 innings....
I'm sure it would take a package leading with Frazier to get him....still, that's the type of guy that makes more sense to me than Wheeler, for example...
