Playing the name game...Way too many Lopez' in MLB history to list all of them, 36 in all. The best player among them might Javy Lopez, a catcher for the Braves, Red Sox and O's from 1992-2006. The only Hall of Famer among them so far is Al Lopez, who played 20 years as a brilliant defensive catcher for the Dodgers, Braves and Pirates from the late 20's to the late 40's, then went on to a 19-year career as a big league manager. He was the manager of the 1954 Indians team that set the AL record for wins with 111 (that got surpassed by the Yanks in 1998 and again by the Seattle Mariners a couple of years later). That Indians team was the only team to win an AL pennant besides the Yankees over the 10-year period from 1949 through 1958, but it got swept by the Giants in the Series that included maybe the greatest defensive play of all time: Willie Mays over the should catch on the dead run in deepest center field of the bat off the bat of the Indians Vic Werts. That play seemed to set the tone for everything that followed in the series. Lopez then went on ti manage the next team that beat the Yanks out for the pennant: the 1959 White Sox who lost the Series in 6 games to the Dodgers. No love for our Hector Lopez? The Yankees had asked Al to manage the team for 1961 season. He had told them no, so they would promote Ralph Houk to Manager position in October, 1960.

Will be doing the HR pics for Kaybli tonight. Another thing to add to the Greenwich lore I found out Hideki Matsui's son plays on one of the local little league teams around here. Haven't seen him yet though. Rumor has it the little Matsui looks like this. You can't miss him! Lives in Japan, flies over for the games? …

Lopez is reportedly an elite pitcher. He will not be giving up many runs unless he has on off game. Stroman needs to go toe to toe for a Yankees win tonight. Game on, lets go!!!

But not as good a player as Javy or even Pablo. He was sort of the weak line in that 1961 lineup.
