Throw over. Sweeper down the middle taken, because Berti was running and steals 2nd without a throw 2nd and 3rd, two down for Grisham, who gets another slider near middle but misses, fouling it off Rusty misses a FB above the waist, outside corner at 95 for the K, inning over. Yanks get one but can't capitalize for more, lead 4-0, going bottom 6. Top of the order gets their 3rd look at Schmidt: Julien, Larnach and Correa. Rusty?

Julien takes a marginal strike on the outside corner, then gets jammed, hits a roller to Rizzo, who flips it soft to Schmidt for the 1st out.

Bill James back about 40 years ago in one of his Abstracts wrote a long piece about how assists for 1st baseman was NOT a great indicator of their "range" because of Bill Buckner, who insisted his pitchers cover 1st on every grounder and piled up assists on plays he could've made easily on his own.
Correa takes a cutter down and away, then gets a cutter near middle and lines it over Soto in right for a 2 out double

I'm not sure what we have in Schmidt, but, wow!

Kepler takes a cutter up in the zone for a strike, then is jammed a bit by a cutter inner 3rd, waist high, hits a high fly to left. Verdugo a few steps to his left, catches, inning over. Schmidt gets into a bit of trouble, then gets right out of it.
Top 7, 4-0 Yanks. 12 pitches for Schmidt in the 6th, and 79 through 6.
Top of the order for the Yanks vs. Theilbar or another reliever: Volpe, Soto and Judge.

I'm not sure what we have in Schmidt, but, wow! He still doesn't look like he has good command, but his variety and movement can baffle some teams. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop on his season, but so far, he's doing fine.

Volpe... Curve low/away, 1-0 Sinker outside and down, 2-0 Sinker in the middle, chopped sharply back to Theilbar, who makes a quick snag, and throws him out, 1 down.

The Name that Yankee shares my birthday, but is 6 years older. Slider on the corner away, 0-1 Slider on the corner away a bit lower, fouled off 0-2 FB up in the zone, grounded to Santana, takes it to the bag, Torres to 3rd with 2 down. Mick "the qwik" Rivers?

Splitter inside, 1-0 on Soto Splitter low, 2-0 Cutter just inside middle middle, taken, 2-1 Sharp splitter with two plane movement low/away, dives to the knees, Soto swings over, 2-2 Splitter well low, count goes full. Cutter misses inside, makes Soto jackknife a bit, ball 4.

Nope. Gary Ward, who started his career with the Twins, then came to the Yanks later on.
