OK, Jays lead the Rays 4-3 top 7 in Toronto and the O's and M's are delayed by rain right now
Well, gotta get going, so...see you tomorrow.

Interesting comparison, the only significant difference is in the innings per start

Interesting comparison, the only significant difference is in the innings per start And that’s easy to explain. In 2023 Cole was a very experienced veteran with his place in the rotation secure. Gil had to prove he could do 5 innings first. I’m eating crow because I thought Gil should have been sent to AAA to start the season. Bold move by Cashman and company…

Interesting comparison, the only significant difference is in the innings per start I would think Cole's ERA+ would have also been higher at the time. He led the AL last year with a 2.63 (and only Snell was lower), and right now the top 10 ERA leaders in the majors range from a 0.96 to 2.24 with Gil not in the top 10.

indeed a spectacular performance by gil. after a bumpy 1st, allowed only 2 hits, no walks over the final 5 K'ing everyone in his path.
overall the SP has been ridiculous. over the last 6 starts, we've allowed a measly 2 ER in 39 innings - 0.46 ERA. and of course giving the bullpen a rest.
soto explodes out of mini "slump". hard to complain about stanton. even seems to be running better. and of course trevino continues his hot hitting. since the slow start .349 BA .947 OPS 5 HR 14 RBI 5.7% K rate in addition to stealing Ks all over the place.
we have 3 guys on pace for 35 HRs and 90 RBI. our best top-to-bottom lineup in a number of years. and if the pitching holds ... who knows ...

If so, I think John Sterling should be the one who sings that song. Any thoughts?

Last year it was 4.33.

Bold move by Cashman and company… I forgot another significant difference, Gil with the much higher BB rate, but so far, a much lower hit rate. And HR rate. So far. This will change as he shows his command better, and as the league starts to get a "book" in him.

Gil wasn't in the top 10 as of yesterday because he was just below the innings requirement to qualify for the ERA leaders. He went 6 yesterday, and is now qualified, waking up this morning 8th in the league in ERA just ahead of teammate Clarke Schmidt. However, as of the end of Tuesday's game, he'll no longer qualify, again, having just 49 innings to the Yankees' 50 games completed. Until he starts again on Thursday, and goes at least 3 innings.
