Game 50: Mariners (Woo) at Yankees (Schmidt)

a disappointment. expected more but admittedly he's in tough situation getting in maybe a game a week.

Slider clips the very bottom of the zone in the middle, 0-2
FB outside corner, Volpe had a good bead on it, tried to go to right, and barely fouled it because of the rise/spin
Sinker low, grounded sharply to the left of 2nd, Crawford moves quickly to his left, scoops it up, throws on the move, and it one-hops to France for the 3rd out.

Woo looks extremely impressive, Yanks making some solid contact, but not much. Maybe they'll do better the 2nd time around.

Top 4, 2-0 M's.
11 pitch 1-2-3 and 32 through 3 for Woo. So many on his pitches on on the inside corner, outside corner and at the knees. Very few in the middle or waist high.

Raleigh Canzone and France for the M's in the 4th.

Canzone misses a slider inner 3rd waist high, bad location.
Knuckle curve MAYBE caught the ends of the corner away, Maybe 1% on gameday. M's arguing and the ump tells them to knock it off.

That's the difference guys. Schmidt's command is back to being poor tonight, and Woo's is outstanding.

Sinker into the top of the zone, inner 3rd, fouled almost straight back.
Slider on the corner away, above the waist, fouled off. Schmidt at 77 pitches with one out in the 3rd.
Jams him a bit with a sinker inside, soft bouncer to the left of 2nd, Volpe charges, fields makes a quick flip to Torres who throws a hard strike to Rizzo to barely double up France and get out of the inning.

Boy, oh boy, did Schmidt need that one.

If Soto is unhappy with the K zone, he's way way off, as both pitches were very much in the zone, 100%

Change tails well outside, tries to check again, can't 3rd base ump rings him up and the side view says, yes, he swung, K, 1 down
