MY dad was a belly gunner on a B-17 and flew 30 bombing missions over Germany. Didn't get the chance to talk to him much about it when he was still with us. Men who've fought in war, especially down-in-the-dirt infantry, rarely want to talk about the experiece, because it was so horrible it brings up horrific memories they'd rather forget. They'll talk about training or boot camp, or strange things or funny things that happened while not at the front, but not actual combat. Guys who served in the Navy or Air Corps/Force might be more willing, because their combat had more "distance", most of the time. My uncle (father's brother-in-law) served on a destroyer, and would talk about it sometimes, but nothing horrible. My other unlce (mother's brother) was a Ranger in Patton's 3rd Army who won himself a Bronze Star, but would NEVER talk about combat with his children, or me and my sister. Too horrible; no point in terrifying children. My grandfather was a WWII Vet and he never talked about what he experienced. It was actually an unwritten rule that we never could bring it up in his presence and I never did. He did give he some of the coins that he brought back with him and I have them somewhere in my house.

FB misses just outside above the waist, called strike 1 anyway, 0% on Gameday Swings over a slider below the knees, near middle, 1-1 on Rizzo Slider almost bounced over hjome, taken, 1-2 FB almost exactly the same spot as the first, fouled off Chases the slider once again low over the middle for the K. 1 down.

Torres swings over a slider below the outside corner, 0-1 Takes a slider a bit high, but just outside, 1-1 FB allegedly on the corner inside, waist high at 97, 1-2. Gameday says 1-2% strike Slider outside, 2-2 Slider well outside knee high, Gleyber tries to check, can't, the 1st base ump rings him up. Side view says that was a very iffy call. Bat head probably went past home, but he didn' break the wrists.

Wells... Slider at the knees, 0-1 Slider well below the knees, called strike 2 anyway. 0% on Gameday, not close Bounces a slider Wells takes it, 1-2 FB hits the corner up and in, makeup call, called ball 2. 75% strike on Gameday. FB above middle, hit hard to the right side, Cronenworth dives to his left, spears it, gets up and throws Wells out. Inning over
Bottom 2, 2-0 Yanks. 15 pitches for Cease in the 2nd, 28 through 2. Machado, Peralta and Merrill for the Padres in the 2nd.
Pacers making a fight of it tonight, lead the Celtics by 14 early in the 3rd quarter, they're down 2-0 in games.

Sinker to the knees, outer half, Machado reaches for it and fouls it off. 0-1 Slurve outside, 1-1. Easy take. Hanging slider waist high, outer 3rd, and he drives it over 2nd and into center for a leadoff single.

Peralta takes a cutter above the waist on the corner away, 0-1 Cutter inside ties him up and he fouls it off his foot. 0-2 Cutter down and in, drops the bat on it and pulls it foul off 1st. Great splitter with two plane break down and away, chases it for the K, 1 down.

Throw over on Machado. Slurve drops into the bottom of the zone in the middle of the plate, 0-1 Cutter into the top of the zone, Merrill misses under, pops to short left center, Volpe makes a fast move back and catches, 2 down.

His last start against the Yanks was excellent. In the middle of 2023's poor season, he dominated the Yanks for 5 1/3 shutout innings in a game in Chicago in early August, allowing just one hit, 0 BB, and striking out 7 in a 5-1 White Sox win. The Yankees' team quadruple slash line vs. Cease stands at .225/.349/.493/.842.
I was at this game last year with my son and it was one of the most frustrating games I've ever went to. Cease actually walked 6 or 7 Yankees which is why his outing was so short, but Yankees could score, stranding runners all over the place. A perfect example of their 2023 season. Cole was the opposing and pitched well until Boone tried to squeeze an extra inning out of him in the 8th and the wheels fell off. I got to see rare 2023 Cole loss in person. That sucks Chi! Hope you see a better game this year if you go!

Didn't quite just lay it in, waist high sinker, but outer 3rd, not middle. Cutter outside, and Campusano doesn't bite, ball 4. 1st and 2nd, 2 down for Kim, with Arraez on deck.
