Yea that stinks. But it's whats best for him you told me. Time to make some more friends! You're an affable guy. You can do it! More so that we've been friends for over 40 years. One of the tragedies of a certain age is the realization that you can no longer make old friends. When someone has known you since you were a kid, there is an understanding that is singularly unique. But, your memory is correct, I encouraged him to take the job and start over in a new place. I believe it's the right choice, a physical and emotional demarcation that he has moved on. I can understand. I would be heartbroken if some of my good friends moved away from the area. Go visit him when you get a chance!

Geez, I went for a post thunderstorm walk at the start of the 7th inning and missed the rest of the game.
Yanks making it look easy against the Twins.

Kepler... Cutter about 4-5 inches above the middle of the zone, Kepler tries to check, can't. FB inner 3rd above the waist, Kepler jams himself, pops it high to short left, Verdugo comes in to catch, Game over! Yanks win again, 5-1. Another nice, polite beating by the Yanks given to the Twins, aided by 2 HRs and a flare double.
Yanks win their 6th in a row, have won 10 of 12, 17 of 21, and are 23-6 since the O's took 3 of 4 from them at Camden Yards, more than a month ago now. They reach a season high 23 games over at 43-19 with 100 games to go.
Rays beat the Marlins 9-5 Braves beat the Red Sox 8-3. O's pounding the Jays 10-1 in the 8th. Assuming that score holds, the stadnings look like...
Yanks continue to lead the O's by 2 1/2, gain a game on the Sox, pushing them back to 12 1/2 games behind, and with the Rays win, the Sox fall into a tie for 4th, both 30-31, 12 1/2 out. The Jays almost certain loss will put 14 games behind the Yanks.

Before signing with the Yankees and getting to see him everyday, I had no idea that Soto was so good-natured and affable. If anyone is having fun playing baseball, it's Juan Soto. That has to be contagious in a clubhouse. He's also one of those guys who looks really sharp in a uniform...even the cap. Especially pinstripes. Not all players pull that off.

just another absolutely dominating performance by gil as they give him an inning off to save innings. bullpen handles the final 3 w a hr off kahnle the only blemish. gil adds another potg to the collection.
not a lot of offense. judge and stanton honorable mention. may as well throw gleyber in there w fence scraper to start it off.

This might have got lost in the traffic of the game posting, but since May 1, opposing batters are hitting .094 (15-160) against Gil. Obscene.

3rd star of the game: Torres for the solo HR that got the Yanks on the board and gave Gil the lead to work with. 2nd star: Judge the 2 run flare double in the 3rd that gave the Yanks and Gil some cushion, and drawing a BB that doubled the value of Stanton's insurance 2 run HR. 1st star: Another EASY choice: Gil, for his 7th straight start of 6 or more innings with 0 runs or 1 run allowed, just one hit, 3 BB and 8 K's. He's now all by himself in 2nd in the AL in wins, and has zoomed past all 3 guys ahead of him to seize the league lead in ERA at 1.82.
The last seven starts have been...well, they've been incredible: 7-0, 0.60 ERA. 44 2/3 innings, 15 hits, 3 runs (all earned), 15 BB and 52 K. His WHIP over these seven starts is a microscopic 0.63, just 3.02 hits per 9 innings. Opposing teams have a quadruple slash line against Gil of .102/.185/.171/.356. I can't remember a better 7-game stretch for a Yankees start since...I dunno, maybe Guidry, 1978? Well maybe, he did have an 8-game stretch from mid-July through most of August where he went 5-1 with 2 no decisions, an ERA of 0.70 and a WHIP of 0.79. So Gil's Stats are better, but of course, it was a different game back then, Gil's averaging a bit over 6 1/3 innings for his 7 start streak, while Guidry had 5 complete games and averaged over 8 innings a start while allowing more than 1 run (2 runs) in just one of the 8 starts. It's not really the same, but to be compared to 1978 Guidry in any way and not look silly for the comparison...man, that's some kind of pitching.

Hitters were 14 for 128 in the prior six games, and 1 for 18 tonight (there was a DP grounder in there). Total should be 15 for 146, and that's .102. I think I'm right about that, but I'm willing to be corrected. Still incredible, either way.
