Down the Jersey Shore today it was a hot overcast day with an afternoon shower but very nice. We are supposed to get rains heavy tonight going all day tomorrow. Should be good at gametime but might hit late innings.

I'm loving this season but as I'm getting older with so much going on it's hard to sit through an entire game let alone post for 3 to 4 hours.

How is the weather for tonight’s game?? Since I keep Yankee Stadium on my weather app… the rains should move out by game time, but a short shower will likely impede, but is unlikely to stop play. High humidity with high 70’s dropping into mid seventies as the game progresses. Wind from the SSE will be lessening from 12 MPH with gust as high as 22 as the game progresses… and shifting to from the south… Which way does the park face? I no not…

The Twins try to even the series at the Stadium by sending right Chris Paddack out to face the Yanks. I did a detailed review of his career the first time he faced the Yanks, so I don't need to re-do his history. In his first start against them in Minnsota about 3 weeks ago, the slapped him around for 12 hits and a HR, and got 5 runs off him in his 5 innings They fumbled away multiple opportunities to blow the game open against him; they left two men on base against in each one of the 5 innings he pitched, except the 3rd, where they left one man on. It didn't matter, because his opponent tonight, Carlos Rodon, threw 6 innings, giving up just a solo HR to Ryan Jeffers, the first man he faced that night. Hamilton and Holmes combined for 3 innings of 1-hit ball, and the Yanks crusied to a 5-1 win.
Paddack has started 3 games since then: an excellent 8-inning, 2-run start against the Guardians that the Twins lost in the 9th on a walkoff 3-run HR by Will Brennan; a pretty good start against the Rangers, allowing 2 runs in 5 innings (this time it was the Twins that got a big 3 run HR in the 8th for the win) for another no-decision, and he got slapped around by the Royals in his last start, 4 runs in 5 innings, but again, the offense got him off the hook by scoring 7 runs in the middle innings. On the season, Paddack is now 4-2 with a 4.57 ERA in 11 starts. In 61 innings, he's allowed 72 hits (his 10.9 hits per 9 innings is the highest among 37 qualified starters in the AL), 31 runs (all earned), 11 HR (his HR/9 of 1.6 is 2nd highest among the 37), 12 BB (the only thing saving him; his 1.8 BB/9 is 9th lowest), and 54 K's. His strand rate is a bit high, but not very; just 72%, and he's gotten just 2 GIDP this year. His ground ball and popup rates are below average, too. His K rate is 9th lowest among the 37. He has the highest BAVG in the league against him among the 37 at .287, the 4th highest OBA, the 3rd highest slugging and OPS, so I'm not sure how he's kept his ERA even as low as 4.57. It's worth noting that his xERA, FIP and xFIP are all between 1/4 run and 1/2 run lower than his ERA. How? Beats me. Including his start 3 weeks ago, he's now 0-2 vs. the Yanks with an ERA of 8.10. In 2 starts, he's pitched 10 innings, allowed 18 hits, 9 runs (all earned), 4 HR, 3 BB and struck out 10. His WHIP againist the Yanks is a hideous 2.100. The Yanks quadruple slash line against him looks like George Brett's peak 1980 season, minus some walks: .383/.415/.681/1.096.
Repertoire: You'd think that coming off the weak start he had against the Yanks three weeks ago, the Twins will have Paddack make some significant adjustments, but through 11 starts, the mix so far is: FB averaging 93 (again, he might throw a 4 seamer 94-6 and a 2 seamer 90-92, but Fangraphs doesn't distinguish in it pitch usage tables) about 41% of the time, change 83 about 28%, slider 86 about 18%, and a curve 78 about 13%.
Playing the name game...I did this for him 3 weeks ago. Way too many Chris's and the like to list, and he's the only Paddack in MLB history.

The Yanks send Carlos Rodon to try to win another series and extend their current winning streak to 7, which would match their season high. Rodon himself is trying to extend his streak of quality starts and wins to 6 in a row. He'd have 6 straight wins of 6 innings or more with 2 or less runs allowed, but Boone tried to extend him in his last start against the Angels, and the bullpen allowed an inherited run to score (in fairness, Rodon left that runner at 3rd with nobody out, but Hamilton struck out two guys and gave up a walk before being pulled for Ferguson, who allowed the single that scored Rodon's 3rd run, 1 out away from getting away with it).
On the season, Rodon is now 7-2 with an ERA of 3.09 in 12 starts. Rodon is 12th (of the 37) in ERA. In 67 innings, he's allowed 56 hits, 24 runs, 23 earned, 10 HR, 20 BB and has sruck out 62. His rates are better than the AL league average, except for HR/9, but among the 37 they're average or a bit below. His WHIP is a pretty good 1.134, better than the league average of 1.23, but is the median position, 19th, out of the 37 qualified starters. In sum, he's been an above average starter, but an average starter among the solid regular rotation guys in the AL. His overall numbers are probably being aided by the Yanks offense (wins), defense and pen (ERA and the rest).
Including that winning start against the Twins three weeks ago, Rodon is now 7-3 vs. the Twins with a 4.35 ERA. In 12 starts and 1 relief appearance, he's pitched 70 1/3 innings, allowing 69 hits, 36 runs, 34 hits, 8 HR, 28 BB and struck out 79. His WHIP against the Twins is a still-high 1.379, and the Twins quadruple slash line against him is .260/.330/.408/.738.

Last night, the Yanks did enough hitting, two HRs, the flare double by Judge for 2 runs, and rode the white-hot arm of Luis Gil (his 7th straight win, and 7th straight start of at least 6 innings with no more than 1 run allowed) to anohter nice, polite beating of the Twins. It was their 6th win in a row, and 23rd win in their last 29 games, moving them to a season-high 23 games over .500 at 43-19.
The Rays rallied to take the lead with 4 in the 4th and broke it open with 5 in the 5th, all against Marlins starter Jesus Luzardo, and beat the Marlins 9-5. The O's pounded on the Jays middle- and slag-arm relievers to the tune of a 10-1 win in Toronto. Ryan Mountcastle hit 2 HR and knocked in 5 and ace Corbin Burnes went 7 innings of 1-run ball to improve his record to 6-2 on the season. The Braves fell behind 3-2, but scored 6 runs in the last 5 innings to pull away from the Red Sox for an 8-3 win in Fenway. Max Fried allowed 2 earned runs and struck out 13 for his 6th win.
As of this morning, the Yanks continued to lead the O's by 2 1/2 games, the Sox and Rays were tied for 3rd-4th, 12 1/2 back, and the Jays were still in the cellar, now 4 games under and 14 full games behind.
Elsewhere in the AL East today: The Red Sox got even for last night, pounding rookie starter Spencer Schwellbach for 7 hits and 6 earned runs in 4 2/3 innngs, while Nick Pivetta threw 7 scoreless innings with 9 K's and combined with two relievers to 1-hit the Braves, 9-0 at Fenway, evening that series at 1-1. The one hit was Austin Riley's soft flare single to right to leadoff the 4th. In the 2nd game of the Florida series in Miami at 6:40 pm, Zack Eflin, 3-4 4.12 ERA will oppose Braxton Garrett, 2-0 4.56 ERA. The O's, who've now won 10 of 12 since getting swept in St. Louis, look to extend their hot run at the Rogers Centre at 7:07 pm. Albert Suarez, 2-0 1.57 ERA is opposed by Jose Berrios, 5-4 2.78 ERA.
With the Sox winning, they break the tie with the Rays, and move into 3rd, 12 games back of the Yankees.
In a little while, it's Paddack vs. Rodon at about 7:08 at the Stadium. That's it for the pre-game hullaballoo. See you in about 45 minutes for first pitch.
