Pyrrhic victory as we get the win and complete the sweep but at what cost? Take it away McBroom I guess.

WTF What happened to Soto?

Yanks win 8-5, and...
1) Sweep the series, and the season's series against the Twins 2) Win their season-best 8th game in a row. They've now won 25 of 31. 3) Get to 25 over for the 1st time this year, and, for the moment, have the best record in MLB by 1/2 game, because the Phillies were off today. 4) Improve their lead over the O's to a season best 4 1/2 games, because the O's lost their 2nd straight to the Jays earlier today.
The Sox also won, while the Rays had the day off. So the Yanks lead the Sox 12 1/2 still, the Rays by 13, and the Jays by 14.
Now, we hold our collective breath to see how badly Soto is injured.

WTF What happened to Soto? Left forearm soreness. Hope it isn't a UCL tear.

8 in a row. 45-19. o's lose so we're up 4 1/2 games.
despite the win, the big question is how serious is soto's injury. hate to lose for any period especially w the dodgers coming in. don't get yes so please post any updates on his condition.
stroman's was the worst start we've seen in about 25 games though he wasn't helped by judge misplaying that fly ball.
gonna give potg to grisham. his first?

Soto left the game with a forearm strain?? Good bet he won't be playing in the series against Dodgers. Dodgers and their fans caught a break.

3rd star of the game: Torres for the great professional hitting going with the pitch away from him, taking advantage of the Twins extreme shift on him for a 2 run double down the 1st base line to add big insurance runs, plus a couple of nifty defensive plays, including the final out with the tying run at the plate. 2nd star of the game: Weaver and the rest of the pen. It wasn't pretty at times, but they did throw 4 1/3 shutout innings locking down the win after Stroman struggled throughout his 4 2/3 innings. Weaver got the W from the scorer. The notional pitcher of record was Hamilton, but he pitched just 1/3 of an inning, and gave a single that alllowed an inherited runner to score. So the scorer invoked "brief and ineffective", and gave it to Weaver, who got the last out of the 6 with 2 men on (he put the 2nd one on, then got out of it), and pitched a nifty 7th. 1st star: Trent Grisham for the 2 run HR in the 2nd that gave the Yanks the early lead, and tacked on a very professional sac fly for a 3rd RBI.
Honorable Mention to Volpe: another hit, produces a run by stealing 3rd and scoring on the wild throw by Vazquez, and turned into two gems in the field.
==============
Boone says Soto's been dealing with the sore forearm for a while, and didn't want to bring him back in after the hour-long cooldown of the rain daly. Doesn't sound serious, but bears watching, and Boone didn't clearly answer when asked if he needed a couple of days off. And with team's history of veracity on injuries, I dunno...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A sweep doesn't take away the sting that Soto might be on IL for a sizable stretch. Frustrating that he will miss the Dodgers series and many more to come.

A very very tough Dodgers team comes into the Stadium next, while the O's go to Tampa to play the struggling Rays.
1st game is 7:08 tomorrow on YES, according to the Yankees' official team schedule. Yanks send their current 5th starter, Cody Poteet out to takle the elite Dodgers lineup. In the last two days, they got 10 runs of uberrookie Paul Skenes and releivers and 11 more tonight off of Bailey Falter and 4 relievers. Poteet is making his 3rd start for the Yanks; he's 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings so far. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the big money free agent from NPB goes for the Dodgers. He had been hit a bit over there starts, but pitched a good game against the Rockies in LA his last start. 1 run in 6 innings for the win. He's 6-2 with a 3.32 ERA in 12 starts this season.
2nd game at 7:37 Saturday evening on the FOXJohnSmoltaRuinsBaseballCast. Nestor Cortes, back home where he's pitched vastly better this season, goes for the Yanks. He's 3-4 in 13 starts with a 3.46 ERA this year. Still-a-rookie Gavin Stone pitches for the Dodgers. He's been great in his last 9 starts, 6-1 with a 2.00 ERA. On the season, he's 6-2 with a 2.90 ERA.
3rd game is the ESPNSundayNightStillAwfulButNotQuiteAsAwfulWithConeyCast at 7:10 pm. Luis Gil, ehite-hot in his last 7 starts, faces his sternest test since at least the series in Camden Yards against the O's. He currently leads the AL in ERA and is 2nd in wins, 8-1, 1.82 ERA. But his opponent is just as good, more experienced and is actually healthy for a change: Tyler Glasnow. He's 6-4 so far this year with a 2.90 ERA, and leads all of MLB with 104 K's, and is a surprising 3rd in the NL in innings with 80.
OK, series preview done, and I go to check notifications.

And Verdugo in. Interesting. Best defensive lineup I guess, but Soto would very likely have gotten another at bat. First innings off for Soto this year, I believe… Not quite, they took him out for an inning or two in four blowout wins, including the back to back 15 run rumps in Milwaukee.

Dominguez had played 4 of the last 6 in center before tonight's game, and started in center tonight, so 5 of the last 7 games. They've also pulled Dominquez early in several of these rehab games. Boone said they didn't even know Dominguez had been taken out early until the media told him about it in the post-game press conference.

I fell asleep not long after putting the game on, so missed pretty much the entire game. We keep rolling without my help. Sounds like the Yankees are just being cautious with Soto. If it was the seventh game of the World Series, he likely leads off that the Yankees half of the inning with an at bat, staying in the game.
