Curve backs inside and up, DJ spins away, 3-2 FB inside middle, fouled off the right side. Slider near the corner away, DJ hits it hard to deep left center, but got under it a bit, and Blanco runs it down on the track for the 3rd out. Hit a long way, just a bit too high to fall in.
Bottom 2, 0-0 Thanks to the long aB by Rizzo and LeMahieu, 22 pitches for Marsh in the 2nd and 35 through 2.
Perez, Velazquez and Fermin for the Royals in the 2nd.

Another careless error by me. I didn't check and thought Marsh was a lefty, but he's a righty, which is why Grisham is starting in center, rather than Stanton at DH.

Perez... FB misses just outside by an inch, but Cortes gets the break and the call, 0-1 Chases a slider hanging 4-5 inches outside, misses, 0-2 Change well outside, 1-2 Slider doesn't get to the back door, and Perez spoils it anyway. Perez tries to check on a slider down and in that bounced, can't, K, 1 down.

Velazquez misses a waist high cutter on the outer 3rd, 0-1 Slider reaches the back door this time, taken, 0-2 Bounces a slider on or near home, taken, 1-2 FB misses a hair outside on the YES zone, Wells about to throw to 3rd, but the ump doesn't give the call, 2-2 FB inside ties him up some, his soft grounder to short is charged by Volpe, who fields and throws him out, 2 down.

Fermin takes a FB outside by 2 inches, 1-0 Cutter hangs high on the outer half, 2-0 Waist high cutter on the corner away, fouled, 2-1 Doesn't finish the changeup, it tails well out of the zone up and away, 3-1 Cutter up and in, Fermin tries to turn on it pops it foul well in the stands off 3rd. 3-2 pitch... FB inner 3rd ties him up a bit, he pops it to shortish left center, but Grisham gets the jump and route, makes it look easy as usual, inning over.
0-0 going top 3. Another easy 1-2-3 for Nestor, 16 pitches and 24 through 2 with no hard contact again..
Wells, Grisham, then back to the top for Volpe for the Yanks in the 3rd.

Wells... Waist high FB misses 3 inches outside, 1-0 Curve misses down and in, 2-0 Tries to back the sinker over the low inside corner, misses inside again, 3-0 Same sinker a bit higher still misses inside 2-3 inches, 4 pitch walk for Wells to start the 3rd.

Grisham gets a sinker thigh high middle, hits it sharply, but the grounder goes right to Witt on the left side of 2nd, turns an easy 6-6-3 DP to cancel the leadoff walk, 2 down.

This is the first "really" hot day game, but it's still not terrible for KC in June. It's 90 degrees, but humidity only in the 50% range. They also don't have that turf like the old Royals' stadium that just bred heat.

First baseman makes a fine stretch to nab Volpe.

Volpe takes a curve low on the inner 3rd, 1-0 Swings over a sinker diving inside, 1-1 Sinker inside corner ties up Volpe a bit, grounds it to Witt, his throw is offline to the home plate side, but Pasquantino saves it with a big stretch, barly keeping his toe on 1st, inning over.
Despite the 4-pitch walk, just 8 pitches for Marsh in the 3rd, and 43 through 3 Bottom 3rd, 0-0
7-8-9 for the Royals: Blanco, Hampson and Isbel.

Yankees are challenging. I don't quite know why.

Blanco... FB waist high, outside corner, taken, 0-1 Slider up in the zone pushes a bunt to the right side of the mound, Rizzo comes in slowly, Cortes falls off the wrong way, Rizzo back flips to Torres but not in time. Bunt single, and Blanco should be running at some point.
Play was close at 1st, Yankees challenging the call. Not sure, his front hand missed wide of 1st. the back hand might have touched after Torres caught it. Close call. Not sure. Might not be enough to overturn.

Yankees are challenging. I don't quite know why. Because the front right hand might've been hidden from the umps viewpoint, and the back hand that touched the bag got in later. Not enough to overturn, call stands.

Call on the field stands, not confirmed.
I'll be honest, in real time I didn't notice the right hand missed the bag, in which case he'd be very safe.
