Cutter barely to the top of the zone, popped down the line in right, hooks foul, 0-1 Cutter above middle, big swing, fouls it off, 0-2 Cutter low in the zone, slaps a fliner to left, slices to Durran for out #3. Three balls hit pretty well, but nothing close to a hit. Game over.
Sox win 8-4. Yanks fall back to 27 games over .500 at 50-23, and lose the game they got from the O's yesterday right back to them. The Jays and Sox also gain a game, but not the Rays. O's now 2 1/2 back again, Sox climb to 13 back, Jays to 14 1/2 back, and the Rays remain 16 out of 1st.

This has been a wholly unenjoyable game. At least the Oilers are thrashing the Panthers, though that's probably too little, too late. Tonight, Rodon was last year's Rodon, and by the time he figured things out, the Red Sox had five runs. I thought we would need double figures to win tonight, but 9 would have gotten it done.

Tonight, Rodon was last year's Rodon, and by the time he figured things out, the Red Sox had five runs. I thought we would need double figures to win tonight, but 9 would have gotten it done. His command was way way off on both the FB and slider, and without both of those pitches he's helpless. He threw some good changeups early, but he can't pitch relying on change and curve. The velocity was good enough, but the command, especially of the slider in the first two innings, was hopeless.

OK, Sox even the series at a game apiece, and the Yanks will try to take another road series tomorrow. If they do, it'll be their 7th straight road series win. Marcus Stroman goes for the Yanks tomorrow. Not sure if he's a great matchup against this team in this park or not. The Sox have the 3rd most K's in the league, and he lives on getting soft contact on chasing, but he doesn't strike out many. He's 6-2 on the season with a 2.82 ERA. Kutter Crawford goes for the Sox. He's 2-6 on the year, but he's pitched better than that, a 3.47 ERA. Pitched a decent game last time vs. Phils, but poorly in the 3 games before that one. Can't put too much stock in pitcher matchups, because tonight's game looked like the Yanks had a significant edge coming in.
OK, game preview over, I check notifications.

Just not much positive you can say about that game. Got behind early, scored a couple, but just kept letting them tack on. They said on the post game that this was tied fro the second most runs they gave up in a game all season so they don't usually allow this much. Just not their day...

frustrating game. fortunately was buzzing around the kitchen prepping for an upcoming party while it was on.
for the 1st 2 innings rodon regressed into last year's version with 64 pitches - mostly fatties - that turned the red sox into doubles machines. too little too late, he found it and did a good job keeping it "close enough", lasting through the 5th w 6Ks over his last 3 throwing only 45 pitches topping at a season high of 109. the "leaky" bullpen ultimately put the game out of reach.
seemed we had traffic every inning but came up shooting blanks. in the 1st, good plays by devers & dalbec killed any chances. DJ goes old school and flips a ball to right knocking in 2. nice job but saw a stat that says he still hasn't hit a ball over 300 ft. concerning. soto HR just over the line on the monster and that was it for offense. though he had 2 hits earlier, turning point was stanton's AB in the 5th. base loaded 2 out resulted in the classic ugly stanton K. turn the page for a series win tonite.

Gonna miss this one, we're taking the girls to see "Inside Out 2." Hopefully I exit the theatre to good news. Smart move; family first.

I feel like I watched him grow up. I'm happy that he made it as a MLB player.

Listening to this broadcast, Boston is the best .500 team in baseball history. Did Smoltz comment on the dimensions of Fenway Park from the leftfield foul line to left center field?
Which reminds me...When Smoltz did the Yankees/Dodgers game at Yankee Stadium, did he comment on the 400 foot flyball out to Centerfield that Stanton made?

Oh boy, three straight FOX broadcasts for the Yankees. Smoltz managed to complain about the short porch even though the game is at Fenway. When is Johnny One Note going to turn the page? I wish that someone on the broadcast would tell him something that he already knows, that the dimensions of Yankee Stadium are the same for both teams.
Sometimes I have the game on mute, but as I just mentioned, I wonder if Smoltz had anything to say about Stanton's 400 foot out on a ball that he hit to CF during the Yankees/Dodgers game.

I gather Smoltz isn't much of a reader. His favorite book is "A Porch Too Close" He already knows this, but someone on the broadcast should tell Johnny that the book opens from right to left, no need to keep reading the title.

I try to tune him out but it's hard to do. The Yankee/Red Sox games have lost a lot of luster for me and a big reason is that so many of the games are on FOX or ESPN and he have to sit through their lousy broadcasts.

I didn't get to see the game, was there any mention during the game of the vidio that looked like Rodon was putting somthing on his pitching hand that emerged during his last start?
