Curve drops thigh high, outer 3rd, 0-1 to Soto Cutter way high over the middle, 1-1 Splitter misses high over the middle, called strike 2 anyway, 1-2, another bad call, 0% on Gameday, 2-3 inches above the top. Takes his timeout Splitter low in the zone, Soto out front, pops it to right, 2 down.

Cutter is low/away, 1-0 on Judge. Hanging cutter in the middle, belted high over the Monster in left, solo HR makes it 1-0 Yanks!!!

Verdugo swungs under a cutter inside corner above the waist, 0-1 Curve on the inside corner, hit well to pretty deep left center, but he got under it, giving Rafaela plenty of time to drift back and catch it a couple of steps from the track, inning over.
Bottom 1, 1-0 Yanks. 15 pitches in the 1st for Crawford, who threw "strikes".

Duran steps in... FB in the middle at 89, taken, 0-1 Back leg slider misses way down and in, 1-1 Sinker down and in, chopped high to the left side, Volpe catches the very high hop on the LF grass, has no play, eats the ball, infield hit.

Say what you want about Volpe but his little "cold patch" (I'm not calling it a slump) coincided with Soto's injury. I wonder if Volpe subconsciously was trying to do too much and developed a bad mechanical habit. He is definitely pulling his head off the ball and his hip out to pull. Nevertheless, he saw 7 pitches to lead off the game, Crawford showed 4 of his pitches. That's not a bad job for a leadoff guy.
