Holmes gives us a scare, per usual, but gets the job done. Big win, but might be a pyrrhic victory as we await word on Judges hand. On to the next one...

Way too good of a pitch to hit, slider just outside middle mmiddle, hit hard down 1st, DJ slider to his left, fields it almost behind him, gets up and beats Cowser to 1st, game over. Yanks WIN, 4-2.
Big win, but now we wait to see if the news about Judge is bad, or terrible.
As I say, a big win, but losing Judge for any significant time, cuts one of the legs off the offense. I hope it's just day-to-day and he'll be back in 3-4 days, but with his injury history, it's hard to be optimistic right now.
Sox rallied for two in the 8th on a HR by O'Neill and a single and SB by Hamilton, followed by a RBI single by Rafela, Jays down to their last out, down 4-3, nobody on base.

Huge win with Cole and Gil up for the Yankees next. You just cannot replace Aaron Judge. I hope his hand is just sore, as it looked to hit off the meat of the hand before contacting the knuckle.

Red Sox coming up fast now, beat the Jays, 4-3, their 4th win in a row and 6th out of 7 games. Rays still delayed in Minnesota in the 5th, up 5-4. If that score holds, Yanks will be 2 1/2 up on the O's, 11 1/2 up on the Red Sox and 15 ahead of both the Jays and Rays.

other than the judge thing, clearly the game was about nestor shutting down the O's on 5 hits w 6Ks no walks over 6 innings. definitely potg. the offense didn't do much. ribby singles by volpe & stanton and sac flys by torres & dj. great to see rice get his 1st hit. might give him an honorable on that basis alone. the hit loaded up the bases setting up gleyber's sac fly.

If Judge misses any time, have to hope it's minimal. The drop off from him to Grisham is immeasurable. Grisham has had some big hits the last couple weeks, but he's hitting a pathetic .102, and that isn't a fluke. He was sub-Mendoza in 2022/23 with regular playing time. He's gonna have to do better. A lot better.

Again, all around the thread for our concern for Judge. 3rd star of the game: Volpe for the single that gave the Yanks the early lead, and another brilliant play to rob Hnederson of a hit. 2nd star: Torres for a walk, a sac fly, a hit by pitch, scoring 1 run and knocking in another and not one but two outstanding plays. 1st star: Nasty Nestor. I'm not sure how, but he shut down the O's for 8 innings, despite leaving a bunch of pitches down and near the middle of the zone. 105 pitches of fighting a touch O's lineup, getting the win to get to 4-5 with a 3.38 ERA. Side note, Oilers scored again on a goal by Connor McDavid to make it 3-0, but the Panthers have come back with 2, with the Oilers getting a 2nd PP goal, this one from from Connor Perry. Oilers up 4-2, but still have to negotiate the meat grinder Panthers in the 3rd period. 4-2 after 2 in Sunrise.

holmes bent but didn't break. yankees win. but at what cost ... Judge went out and played the field. If he broke his hand or finger he wouldn’t be able to move it.

Not that Dominguez is in Judge's zip code, but he's at least an exciting prospect who has been playing very well. Grisham is an oatmeal raisin cookie with a good glove.

The 2nd game of the series is (ugh) the Prime DelayedVideo Pain of the Week at 7:07 pm. Elite lefty pitching prospect Cade Povich makes his 3rd start for the O's. He got hammered in the 1st one by the Jays, but shut down the Braves for 6 innings in his 2nd start. Gerrit Cole comes off the IL to make his 1st start of the season against a very tough O's lineup. He says he feels fine, but I won't be happy until he throws a few games in the majors without having a setback. He probably has a pitchcount cap of 80-85 max, so if he can get through 5 full innings, it'll be just about all he does.
Having done the game preview for tomorrow, I check my notifications.
