Welp, first taste of real adversity this season. Let's see how they react against ATL. After this, do you really care? The Yankees can't beat AL East teams, especially the Orioles. They could win every other games in every other division and still will not win the AL. We'll see you next year, then.

Still a lot of runway. And yes, I still care because I love baseball and the Yankees. Do i feel particularly bullish about their chances in October as currently constructed? Not at all. But it's June, and there's plenty of time to make moves. I don't close up shop after a rough few games.

None of the 6 Division winners in '23 made it to the World Series. In fact, the team with the worst W-L record (AZ DBacks - .519) did.

Yanks have another tough series ahead. The Braves, even without Acuna, are still a tough team with a very good lineup and they're line up their 3 best starters to face the Yanks at the Stadium this weekend.
1st game is tomorrow evening at 7:07 on, unfortunately, Prime Delayed Video. A rejunated Chris Sale, finally healthy again and having his best season since 2018, goes for the Braves. He's 9-2 with a 2.98 ERA this year, and has pitched two very good games in a row after the A's, of all teams, gave him a beating in Atlanta. Carlos Rodon goes for the Yanks. He's looking to rebound after he came out for his last start against the Sox in Fenway with no command of anything and the Sox smacked him all over the park for the first two innings.
2nd game is the Smoltz=IpecacCast on FOX, Saturday evening at 7:15. Charlie Morton, not quite what he was 5-6 years ago for the Astros, but still handles the Yanks, goes for the Braves. He's 4-3 with a 3.91 ERA on the year, and has been up and down his last five starts. The Nats hit him hard twice, but he pitched well against the Cubs, A's and Rays in the other three. Marcus Stroman goes for the Yanks. He's 6-3 with a 3.08 ERA, but the league might be catching on to his shell game approach, both the Twins and Red Sox hit him hard in his last three outings and you can't survive for long as a starter in the modern game for on a K-BB% of 6.5%, which is where he's at this season.
3rd game is thankfully not the ESPNCanWePleaseStopTheInterviewsCast this weekend, thank good ness. The series finale is on YES at the usual later Sunday matinee time of 1:37. Max Fried, back in form after a rough 1st start or two, goes for the Braves. He's 6-3 on the season with a 3.11 ERA, and is the only pitcher in baseball with 2 complete games. Nestor Cortes, coming off his 6-inning winning fight against the O's on Tuesday, goes for the Yanks. Nestor is 4-5 on the season with a 3.36 ERA.
OK...series preview complete, I go to check notifications one last time.

OK, notifications checked. I'm going to have my dinner and think about how nice these first 3 months have been up until the last week. Because I think it gets rougher from here.
See you guys tomorrow evening for Sale vs. Rodon. Good evening to all of you. Bye.

See you guys tomorrow evening for Sale vs. Rodon. Good evening to all of you. Bye. Yeah, unfortunately I agree a rocky road is ahead. The starting pitching hasn't looked very good overall the last couple times around and the short outings are really exposing how awful the bullpen is. When you're plucking a scrub like Tim Hill off the scrap heap and adding him to your roster in June, it's bleak. On top of that, getting very little production from the corner infield spots and Gleyber, though better recently, still isn't himself and it's getting late early. A lot went right the first two months, now all of the warts are being exposed and they're significant. If the WS is really the goal this season, gonna have to let go of some of those prized prospects down on the farm to bring in some real reinforcements.

This season is reminding me of 2022. Great start, then the look of a totally different team following injuries. That’s the feel I’ve been getting. Once you’ve see it, you recognize it the second time. It 2022 we thought it was “impossible”, but know we know better… I could well be proven wrong, but I still think this team is better than what the Yankees put out there in 2022. (BTW at this point that team was five games better than this one at 56-20.) There have been significant upgrades in the OF, with Hicks and Gallo replaced by Soto and Verdugo. Likewise at SS, with IKF replaced by Volpe. Judge, Gleyber, Trevino and Stanton (who remember did hit 31 HRs that year) are the same. We had a better version of Rizzo (he did hit 32 HRs, although his BA was only .224 and his OBP .338) although it remains to be seen how Rice will do. Third base has been a problem, although it was manned by Josh Donaldson in 2022, and I don't remember many fans talking about what a great job he was doing. If Berti is back for the stretch run, to me he's still an upgrade. DJLM as a utility guy was better than he is now, but there is still time for him to get closer to what he was (although I'm not counting on it.) The six principal starting pitchers were Cole, Nestor, Taillon, Montgomery, Severino and German. Today they are Cole, Nestor, Rodon, Gil, Stroman and Schmidt. Then as now Holmes was the closer. The other relievers with at least 40 appearances were Luetge, Peralta, Marinaccio, Loaisiga and Chapman. The last two had ERAs over 4.00 that year. At least as of now I would definitely take the current starters as a group over the 2022 group. Maybe that bullpen was better, but that can change quickly as the year unfolds. The Yanks have plenty of holes to address, and I do think that top to bottom Baltimore puts out a more balanced lineup, but their starting pitching has been decimated by injuries to guys like Means and Bradish who aren't coming back (and Kremer, who will be) not to mention losing their closer Bautista for the year and key setup guy Danny Coloumbe is out long term as well. So that could bite them as the year goes along. Baltimore is a significant obstacle obviously and they should be a pain for a long time. Although last year they won 101 games and were swept by the Rangers in the ALDS. But they are a more solid team than last year as well. At least for where things stand now, I still think this Yankee team is better than the 2022 version. That obviously could change depending on injuries.

We were a couple of stupid Trevino throws and a retaliatory beaning away from a series win here. So let’s not overreact. I'm not just saying both series everytime it looked like they were about to take control of the game the other team would add on a couple like they just couldn't pin them down when needed. I still standby the Yankees and orioles are probably the only good two teams in the Al at this point. Guardians record is inflated by the terrible central and Seattle is very up and down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sorry Anthony I wasn’t addressing you when I said let’s not overreact. I know you are a level headed poster. It was more said in general to everyone.

I dont see Baltimore as an impossible team to beat Houston in 22 I felt like the front office never believed that team could beat them and hoped Seattle would beat them out and they didn't. Then Seattle got Castillo which made that option worse than before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

One thing I'm seeing this season vs 22 or 23 is a lot less comments of "oh so and so will perform their baseball card says so"

just got home from playing to see this disaster. guess when they're this bad, it's easy to turn the page but so far the O's have owned us. sorta like houston the past couple seasons .
some disturbing developments. gil's last 3 starts have been on a downward trajectory. says he feels fine. the bullpen on just an awful run. 1B and 3B look like black holes at the moment.

This is the mess Cashman created. Besides Soto and Dugie he brought back the same a collection of injured players on the decline hoping to strike lightening in the bottle.

Oh, it’s certainly a better team, but right now is just a dangerous time and they need to prove they can overcome it. And Cashman needs to find some upgrades that may be bigger than incremental. So the fight becomes one with the budget and the master of the budget, Mr. Hal…
