It's pretty clear to most Yankee fans that this BP is really struggling right now and there are very few options that Boone has to navigate the final innings of close games. I took a look at the current relievers (there will be somebody added to the roster today) to see how they are trending. Season stats vs. stats for their last 7 appearences. Almost evey RP is trending in the wrong direction and some key pieces have been really bad. Those who watch te Yankees regularly probably already know this but I thought I would post some stats. It's no easy job for Boone when it comes to making BP decisions lately.
Another thing different about this pen is they don't have a lot of high K guys.
Ferguson Season ERA 5.47 WHIP 1.50 Last 7 ERA 6.00 WHIP 1.50 30K in 24.2 IP
Gonzales Season ERA 3.86 WHIP 1.11 Last 7 ERA 5.40 WHIP 1.20 11K in 23.1 IP
Hill Season ERA 5.63 WHIP 2.21 Last 7 ERA 16.20 WHIP 3.60 13K in 24 IP
Holmes Season ERA 2.53 WHIP 1.34 Last 7 ERA 6.75 WHIP 1.50 30 K in 32 IP
Kahnle Season ERA 3.86 WHIP 1.39 Last 7 ERA 5.79 WHIP 2.36 11 K in 9.1 IP
Tonkin Season ERA 2.38 WHIP 1.00 Last 7 ERA 1.15 WHP 0.89 34K in 34IP
Weaver Season ERA 2.68 WHIP 0.80 Last 7 ERA 2.25 WHIP 1.13 44K in 43.2 IP

BP issues. I thought you meant blood pressure. Mine’s 123/73.
I didn’t feel good about our pen this spring, but then they performed well and I felt great about them. Now they’re a dump and I don’t feel good about them again.
Worst bullpen since the Ponson/Mitre days…

Cash has done a good job recently putting pens together but didn't like what he did this year. I'm going to be curious to see how much turnover there is between now and the playoffs. Several of the current guys need to pick it up and I'm pretty sure at least 2 or 3 guys wont be around for the duration. It's also going to be interesting to see how the pecking order changes. I'm used to a pen with more defined roles than this one seems to have. I now longer feel like Marinnacio is an answer, maybe Hamilton comes back and finds his form, not banking on Effross but I guess he's a wild card. Is Schmidt and option? Cash has to go get a couple reliable BP arms, doesn't he?

I guess today that would be Mason Miller…but boy… would that cost us… And it’s not Wandy. He’s 1-1; 4.18 in San Diego…

Effross getting hurt really messed up the Yankees bullpen. I heard that there's a chance that he might pitch for the Yankees this season. Even if he does the Yankees should try to upgrade their bullpen. Maybe a trade with the A's?

Wow, Victor González was designated for assignment. The Yankees did indeed promote Gomez. Yankees also promoted Phil Bickford. I like Gomez and I like Bickford's hits to inning pitched ratio. Bickford also has a good strikeout to innings pitched ratio.

Today the Yanks promoted Cam Schlitter fro High A, all the way up to AAA. Don't know much about him but he has 71 Ks in 54 IP. Interesting that he is seemingly being fast tracked.

But Cam also has a very good hits to inning pitched ratio. I wonder if that means that the Yankees are going to keep Gomez with the team the rest of the season?

Based on the K numbers I'm wondering if they might be viewing him as a backend BP piece or if the plans are to keep him as a SP.

I for one will be pulling for Cameron John "Bull" Schlitter! Big guy at 6'6" and was on Hudson team when DJ LeMahieu was there rehabbing.
