indeed ... astros score 9 in the 6th to take a 14-3 lead only for the orioles to wage a furious comeback in the 8th falling short at 14-11. so we are still in 1st place.
Funny how MLB is...The Orioles looked like world beaters vs the Yankees and the next night the Astros did a number on the Orioles. yup that's how baseball works. even good teams lose. ok we're 2-6 but phillies are 3-6 and dodgers 6-6. other teams go into slumps. all teams have "weeds" on their lawn.
and yeah some disturbing trends. the leaky bullpen is huge. think we need to shore up 3B. 1B as well but probably can't do both. rough week but ok w trevino for now. very concerned about rodon and gil to a lesser extent. certainly not looking like a championship the last week or so but we're only at the halfway mark. we'll see how we - both the players and cashman respond to this adversity.

We have Naervez, who’s ready, but not viewed as a starter by the Yanks. I like him. The next options are already here in Wells and Ben Rice, but they need Rice at 1B and his defense may not be ready. Then they have Agustin Ramírez on the farm who is about a heart beat behind Rice. We’re just not quite in a position to use either one unless there’s a great emergency. Maybe we should have held on to Luis Torrens instead of selling him to the Mets. Seemed like a good idea at the time… Why did this all of a sudden because such an issue the last week? Like it wasn't this glaring before the Red Sox series and someone pointing out his CS% is still basically league average. One of the reasons is that for the most of the season, the Yankees have had the best pitching staff in the league, so the opportunities to take advantage in the running game weren't there. Last week, Stroman couldn't get anyone out, so the Red Sox ran wild on him and now most of the staff has fallen into this slump. Way to many baserunners.

The bullpen is def the most important thing. Too many years lately where by October they were spent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The question I have for whomever wrote Friday's Yankee lineup is...Why would a pitcher give cleanup hitter Stanton anything to hit when Jones is batting 5th?

Just my 2 cents...He hasn't been hitting the cover off the ball, but I think the better option to bat 5th would be the proven MLB hitter (DJ).

so, do we just stink now? No, the Yankees are just in a bit of a rut.
To be honest, I think much of this sudden panic over the "current" state of the Yankees (over the last 3 or 4 series) has a LOT to do with the 2022 Yankees, and how they teased us for the first third of the season. I strongly believe this team is MUCH better than the 2022 Yankees. As we should all realize by now, ANYTHING can happen in October, but getting there (and making sure the horses that get you there stay healthy for the October drive) is the important part.
