FB waist high, inside corner, taken, 0-1 Ozuna goes after a FB waist high, 3 inches off the plate inside, popped to the ShortPorch in short right, Soto comes in and catches, 1 down.

Look like a professional, pitch like one. Phil Bickford.

Bickford, veteran reliever who's had some good years and some awful ones, Yanks called him up to replace Victor Gonazalez, who they're trying to clear through waivers. FB at the top of the zone, outer 3rd, is a 50-50 strike on Gameday, not called, 1-0. Bad call again. Fb high outer half, 2-0 FB in the zone up and away, Swung on and misses, 2-1 FB near the same spot, fouled FB above middle, popped to Verdugo in the ShortPorch in left, 2 down.

Riley swings over a slider low, 0-1 Riley inside outs a slider on the inner 3rd, drives it to the ShortPorch in medium deep right, easy play for Soto, game over. Yanks win, 8-3!
One last IdiotSmoltz for the night; Yankee fans were worried that the season was starting to slip away after a great start, JUST LIKE LAST YEAR?. No, John, that was 2022.

Ladies and gentlemen, Phil "Battling" Bickford has looked very good. I especially like that he pitches inside.

Look like a professional, pitch like one. Phil Bickford. Bickford very up and down, had one good year for the Dodgers 3 years ago, but 7-6 with a 4.84 ERA for the Dodgers and Mets the last two years. 20 HR in 128 innings, and 53 BB, but also 143 K's. Maybe Blake can work some dumpster dive releiver magic with him. It's worked for others.

Indeed. And once again I feel irrationally happy with the result. Would be nice to get back on a run of series wins

OK, Yanks win, 8-3, keep the 3-game losing streak from becoming a season-high 4-game losing streak, moving back to 25 games over .500 at 52-27.
Gain a much needed game on the O's, meaning they stay in first this weekend, at least. Yanks lead the O's by 1 1/2, the Red Sox by 10, the Rays by 14 and the Jays by 15. They try to win a series for the first time in 3 series tomorrow, and if they do, they split the 6-game homestand against two very tough teams.

an exhale game as stroman rights the ship. big time performance earns him potg against a tough braves lineup. bullpen does a nice job closing as 3 of cashman's reclamation projects get it done.
on the offensive side, judge - who else ... is runner up. will give HMs to cabrera for a big 2 RBI hit and soto getting on base 4 out of 5 times.

3rd star of the game: Cabrera, with 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI and one excellent play at 3rd. 2nd star: Judge with the big answer back two-run HR to the VeryShortMidget-likePorch in right in the 1st, taking the lead back from the Braves and changing the momentum of the series to that point. He also got a run home with a DP grounder (no RBI), and drove in a 3rd run with a bases loaded walk, plus he made a nifty backhand shoestring catch to take a hit away when the game was still close. 1st star: His night began with a solo HR by Ozuna to the ShortPorch in the Yankees bullpen in right center in the first, and ended on a 2-run HR to the ItsyBitsyTeenyWeenyYellowPolkaDotPorch in right by d'Arnaud, but in between, he was nails against a very good Braves lineup that came into the game hot. 3 ER in 6 2/3 innings for his 7th win, and he limited his walks to just two tonight. Answered the challenge. Well done, Marcus Stroman.
