an exhale game as stroman rights the ship. big time performance earns him potg against a tough braves lineup. bullpen does a nice job closing as 3 of cashman's reclamation projects get it done. on the offensive side, judge - who else ... is runner up. will give HMs to cabrera for a big 2 RBI hit and soto getting on base 4 out of 5 times. That's pretty much what I have, bumper; thought about Soto for 3rd star, but Cabrera had 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI, and Soto had just the 1 run scored.

bummer is stanton's injury. hopefully it's just a short term thing. hate him all you want but he's had good season and has been hot as of late and he is someone opposing teams have to respect. w/o him the lineup get a lot shorter.
nestor coming off 2 good starts goes up against fried. really need to win this series going into the off day before the subway series.

Ugh, Stanton is getting an MRI. Not to worry. He'll be back in August. Of 2026.

The rubber game is thankfully back on YES at the usual Sunday matinee time of 1:37 or so. Max Fried, 6-3 with a 3.11 ERA goes for the Braves. He's the only pitcher in MLB with 2 complete games, and one of 10 who've thrown a 9-inning shutout this year. The Red Sox got 4 runs off him in 7 1/3 three starts ago, and the O's got 4 runs in 5 innings to hang a loss on him two starts ago, but he held the Tigers to 1 run in 5 1/3 innings for a no-decision last time out. Nestor Cortes goes for the Yanks. In his last start, he battled the O's through 6 shutout innings, getting the Yanks their only win in that series. He's now 4-5 on the season with a solid 3.36 ERA and a better-than-solid 1.100 WHIP.
OK, I've been checking notifications all the way along, so with tomorrow's game preview done, I'm going to get going. See you guys tomorrow afternoon for the series finale. Good night to all. Bye!

According to Smoltz, there's a short porch in left field too. Yeah, I heard him make a comment about the LF line, and laughed at him.

Smoltz is such a putz. I just turned on the game, and he called right field a lay-up for hitters. Makes you wonder how shutouts and perfect games are even possible here. Nevertheless, Smoltz, you lost 1-0 to Andy Pettitte in 1996 in game 5 in Atlanta, and then Jimmy Key won the series and game 6 with Atlanta and Greg Maddox losing 3-2 in New York. Where were all the lay-ups, Smoltzy? Or, do they move the fences back when the opposition bats? Moron. What is it to the Pesky pole? 275 ft? Does he ever mention that? I'm wondering if he's ever mentioned that the RF power alley at the Braves home stadium is 10 feet shorter than the RF power ally at Yankee stadium. Or...When their old home stadium (Fulton County Stadium) was called "The Launching Pad."

He's not the only one who frequently mentions the RF porch...most Yankee announcers do. But it was "interesting" to hear him actually question what the LF distance is down the line. I think he said he doesn't believe what is posted...318'.

Ladies and gentlemen, Phil "Battling" Bickford has looked very good. I especially like that he pitches inside. Judging by his career Ks/innings pitched ratio and hits/innings pitched ratio, the Yankees might have found a pretty good relief pitcher.

It's funny that one reason Fulton County Stadium was dubbed "The Launching Pad" is that at the time it was the highest ML ballpark at 1000' above sea level. It was "odd" that in his first year in Atlanta Davey Johnson hit 43 HRs, which he had never come close to in Baltimore and never again while still in Atlanta. It does appear Hank Aaron's HR production was substantially better in Atlanta compared with his time in Milwaukee, but that doesn't do anything to minimize his accomplishment.
