In the NL:
Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers had a good week, and has taken the NL lead in hitter bWAR at 4.0. Last week's leader Ketel Marte of the D'backs fell back to 3rd, behind Ohtani and his teammate Mookie Betts. Ohtani's surge also put him into the NL lead in BAVG at .322. Luis Arraez had a very bad week and dropped into 3rd, 8 points behind, with teammate Jurickson Profar in 2nd at .320. Profar leads in OBA at .415, now 10 points ahead of Mookie Betts of the Dodgers. Ohtani's surge also moved him to the lead in slugging at .628, with Marcel Ozuna of the Braves plummeting 29 pts in one week to 2nd at .590. Ohtani also took the lead in OPS at 1.026, with Ozuna well back at .977. Fernand Tatis, Jr of the Padres is now all alone with the NL lead in games played at 80, and leads in PA as well at 345. Arraez still leads in at bats at 322. Arraez leads in hits with 101, Ohtani is just 5 behind. Ohtani also blew by William Contreras of the Brewers to take the league lead with 60 runs scored, Contreras is 2 behind. Ohtani continues to lead in total bases as well with 187, 26 ahead of Ozuna. Alex Bohm of the Phillies continues to lead in doubles with 25, two ahead of Ezequiel Tover of the Rockies, who's also a surprise in 3rd in total bases. Corbin Carroll of the D'backs (despite having an otherwise shockingly dreadful season) now leads the NL with 6 triples, one ahead of CJ Abrams of the Nationals. Ohtani has retaken the lead in HR with 22, 2 ahead of Ozuna. Ozuna still leads with 63 RBI, 3 ahead of Bohm. Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies still leads in BB with 55; Betts is 8 behind him, tied with teammate Freddie Freeman. Elly de la Cruz of the Reds continues to be way out front with 37 steals, but not so much in K's with 100, just 4 ahead of the Cards' Nolan Gorman. Brandon Nimmo of the Mets continues to lead in HBP with 10, still one ahead Brendan Donovan of the Cards. Marte of the D'backs hit two sac flies to take the NL lead with 7, one ahead of Will Smith of the Dodgers. Manny Machado of the Padres now leads the majors with 14 GIDP, in the NL; Arraez is just one behind.

Among AL pitchers:
Tyler Anderson of the Angels has surprisingly moved into the lead in pitcher bWAR with 4.0. Luis Gil dropped to 10th at 2.4. O's ace Corbin Burns has moved into the AL lead with a 2.14 ERA, fractions of a point ahead of Tanner Houck of the Red Sox, also at 2.14 (2.137 to 2.141, to be precise) The Royals' Seth Lugo has retaken the lead in wins with 10. Gil is tied for 2nd with teammate Carlos Rodon at 9. Bryan Abreu of the Astros lead with 38 games pitched, one ahead of 4 pitchers. Nestor Cortes is in a 10-way tie for the league in starts with 16, and Carlos Rodon is also one of the 10. There are still 6 pitchers in the AL with 1 complete game, and three of them are shutouts. If the ties are ever broken, I'll let you know. Lugo leads in innnings pitched at 104. Cortes is 7th with 93 2/3. Garrett Crochet of the White continues to lead in K's at 124, and leads in K's per 9 innings 12.59. Gil is 6th in K's with 97, and 4th in K's per 9 at 10.73. With the beating Gil took from the Orioles Thursday, he's lost the lead in H/9 innings to Ronel Blanco of the Astros, who's at 5.10. Gil is now 2nd at 5.20. Logan Gilbert of the Mariners now leads in WHIP at 0.915 Zac Eflin would still lead the AL in fewest walks per 9 but doesn't qualify, and the same in K to BB ratio at 12.5. Right now, George Kirby of the Mariners is back in his usual spot on top in BB/9 at 0.87 and K/BB at 9.89 Triston McKenzie of the Guardians is back in the league lead with 42 walks allowed, Gil is tied for 2nd with Anderson, 1 BB behind. Marcus Stroman of the Yanks is 4th at 38. Emmanuel Clase of the Guardians still leads in saves with 22; Clay Holmes is now three behind.

On the NL side: Rangere Suarez of the Phillies continues to lead many of the key categoris: 1st in pitcher bWAR at 3.5, in ERA at 1.75. tied for the leads in wins as well with with Chris Sale of the Braves at 10. Suarez also leads in WHIP at 0.89, but he's 2nd in H/9 innings to Tyler Glasnow of the Dodgers at 5.81 Glasnow also leads with 125 K's , and also in K's per 9 at 12.10. Logan Webb of the Giants continues to lead in games started with 16, but he's now tied with Dylan Cease of the Padres. Webb leads in innings pitched at 99 1/3. Shota Imanaga of the Cubs took a severe beating in a game this week, giving up 10 runs, yet somehow moved past Sale to the lead in BB per 9 innings at 1.37, and in K/BB ratio at 6.75. Yanks didn't do much with Sale, but they did force 3 walks out of him in 5 innings. Max Fried is still the only MLB pitcher with 2 complete games this year, and he's still one of four pitchers in the NL who have thrown a shutout. Ryan Helsley of the Cards still leads in saves with 25, three ahead of Clase for the major league lead.

Feels like Soto has been in a bit of a funk for awhile, not sure what stats say but feels like a lot of soft contact. Hope we get an offensive explosion tonight. indeed he has. since his return from whatever that was, in 11 games he's hitting .206 w 1 HR and 3 RBI and just 1 2B. very un-soto like. he does have 14 walks so he's getting on base w .449 OBP. but not really driving the ball. so maybe he's not 100% and playing through it. He's also had a couple of boneheaded baserunning plays and a badly misplayed ball in the outfield

The Pirates held on and beat the Rays 4-3, evening that series. The O's DID NOT "have a rally in their bones" losing their 2nd straight to the Astros, 5-1, on just 4 hits. They got a 1 out triple from Mullins in the 7th but couldn't score him, and were retired 1-2-3 in the 8th and 9th by Pressly and Hader, who struck out 3 as well. The Guardians beat the Jays again, 6-3, to win that series. The Red Sox rallied with 1 in the 5th, 2 in the 6th, and 2 in the 8th on 3 singles with a sac fly to win 4-3 in Cincinnati, evening that series.
Yanks will stay in first place for at least one more day. They currently lead the O's by 1 game, the Sox by 9 1/2, the Rays by 13 1/2 and the Jays by 15.

Stroman is ready to go. Kelenic in the box. Game underway... Sinker well outside, ball 1. Sigh.

I’m excited for tonight. I have to feel like the Yanks have enough and are going to be tough to beat tonight…

Albies takes a cutter just below middle middle, bad location, 0-1 Sinker waist high, inner 3rd, grounded sharply down the 1st base line, but Rice is there, fields, takes it to the bag himself, 2 down.

I guess it's too much to ask for the Yanks to come to hit without already losing.

Ozuna takes his timeout. Then takes a cutter that brushes the top of the zone, not called, 5-10% on Gameday Sinker outside, 2-0 Waist high cutter, outer 3rd, misses and fouls it off, 2-1 Big HR Hack over a slider out of the zone low/away, 2-2 Cuttet 6-8 inches outside taken, 3-2 Sinker thigh high in the middle, doesn't look that bad off the bat, but Ozuna, like Judge and Stanton, is a strong dude, gets into the Yankee bullpen. Solo HR puts the Yanks down early 1-0 And IdiotSmoltz can't restrain himself, talks about "the Porch" even though it's no where near the Porch, landing in the pen, and is a HR not just at the Stadium, but also in 17 other MLB Parks.

Sinker hits the low inside corner to Olsen, not called, 80-90% strike on Gameday, brutal call. Sinker right near that one a bit further toward the middle, fouled, 1-1 Delay for a Pitchcom problem... Slurve hits the back door below the waist, 1-2 Cutter gets a tiny piece of the high outside corner, not called, <5% on Gameday Slider out of the zone down and in, foul tipped into the mitt for a K, inning over.
Botto9m 1, 1-0 Braves 15 pitches for Stroman in the 1st.

I guess it's too much to ask for the Yanks to come to hit without already losing. It is, if you leave a 90 mph sinker down the middle thigh high to an Ozuna. These Braves guys aren't going to miss those all night.

I’m staying away from Smoltz. The game is on YES as well…
