1894-Future Hall of Fame Yankees General Manager (1948-1960) and Minor League Farm Director (1932-1947) George Weiss was born. (1894-1972)
Baseball Executive George Weiss would spend 29 years in the Yankees organization before retiring on November 2,1960. Before becoming the Yankees General Manager in 1948, he had helped establish and run the Yankees Farm System in 1932 for Yankees long-time GM Edward Barrow (1920-1945). He was tight fisted with the Yankee player salaries, caring only about getting his bonus money from the Yankee Team Co-Owners Del Webb and Dan Topping for bringing in the team under “budget.” The Yankee players did not like him. His search for the perfect Black Yankees player, delayed the team’s entry into the black baseball player talent market. After being retired by the Yankees front office at the age of 65 in October of 1960, George would join the new NL Expansion Team, the New York Mets in the fall of 1961, as their 1st team General Manager and Team President (1961-1966), bringing along with him, former Yankees Manager Casey Stengel as the team’s 1st MLB Manager. In 1971, George Weiss was elected as a Baseball Executive to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Robinson was recalled from the AA Newark Bears (IL) upon his entry into the Coast Guard in June 1943. He was discharged from his military service in July of 1945. In 1947, Aaron Robinson was an AL All-Star Catcher. He had played in the 1947 World Series against the Dodgers, going 2 for 10, while hitting .200. However, Aaron Robinson became expendable because the team had a promising 22-year-old Rookie Catcher named Yogi Berra. Aaron had played 8 seasons in the MLB, never appearing at any other position than Catcher. While he got into 1 game in 1943, he was 30 years old before he played his 2nd MLB game in 1945 at the age of 31 before he became the regular catcher for the Yankees. 1941-At Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Bombers down the St. Louis Browns 9-1 behind the complete game pitching of veteran starter Lefty Gomez, who only gives up 5 Browns hits and 1 run with 4 strike outs. He is now 5-3 for the for the 1941 AL season. Yankees hitting attack is paced by 3 HRs by 3B Red Rolfe, OF Tommy Henrich and 2B Joe “Flash” Gordon. The Browns Starter Bob Muncrief takes the lost, giving up all 9 Yankees runs with 10 hits. He is now 4-2 for the 1941 AL season
1950-Detroit Starter Art Houtteman pitches the Tigers to a 4-1 win over the Yankees. Yogi Berra's HR is the only Yankees score, as they lose their 4th straight game and 8th game in 12 games. The Tigers now lead the AL by 3 games.
1958-At Comiskey Park in Chicago, the Yankees would erupt for 5 runs in the 4th inning off of veteran Starter Early Wynn to beat the White Sox by a score of 6-2. Mickey Mantle's clout into the CF bleachers leads off the 4th inning, followed by a single, walk and Jerry Lumpe's 1st MLB Career HR and an HR by LF Norm Siebern. Yankees Closer Ryne Duren strikeouts 6 of the last 9 White Sox batters that he faces to preserve Yankees Starter Bob Turley's win.
1962-A marathon game between the Tigers and Yankees ends in the 22nd inning at Tiger Stadium, when Jack Reed's HR, his only MLB Career HR gives Yankees Rookie Reliever Jim Bouton, a 9-7 victory. Reserve OF Jack Reed had replaced Joe Pepitone in the 13th inning. For the Tigers, Closer Phil Regan takes the loss, while Tigers OF Rocky Colavito has 7 hits. Yankees 2B Bobby Richardson ties a mark by going to the plate 11 times. At an even 7 hours, the game is the slowest extra-inning contest in AL history and it is the longest game in innings in Yankees’ history. Veteran Yankees All-Star Catcher Yogi Berra, who is now 37 years old, catches all 22 innings of the game. Yankees Manager Ralph Houk had used his other 2 Roster Catchers Elston Howard and Johnny Blanchard in different positions during in the extra-inning game.
1967-Yankees All-Star Slugger Mickey Mantle breaks a 3-3 tie in the 9th inning with a HR off of Tigers Reliever Fred Gladding to give the 9th place Yankees, a 4-3 victory.
1970-During a doubleheader with the Indians at Yankee Stadium, Bobby Murcer ties Lou Gehrig's record of 4 straight HRs. The Yankees lose the opener by a score of 7-2, despite Murcer's 9th-inning HR off of Tribe hurler Sam McDowell. Murcer next connects off of Game 2 Tribe Starter Mike Paul by hitting a solo HR in the 1st inning. A walk in the 4th, then a 2-run HR off of P Mike Paul in the 5th inning and then a game-tying HR in the 8th inning off of Reliever Fred Lasher. Yankees scores in the bottom of the 9th inning to salvage a 5-4 win. Indians 1B Tony Horton hears a boo and literally crawls back to the Tribe dugout, after fanning on 2 of Yankees hurler Steve Hamilton's "folly floaters." Sensitive to fans' booing during the 1970 AL season, Horton will be hospitalized and at the age of 25, this will be his last active MLB season.
1977-Before a crowd of 54,940 fans at Yankee Stadium, Roy White launches a dramatic 2-out, 2-run HR in the bottom of the 9th inning to give the Bronx Bombers, a 5-5 tie with the Red Sox. The Yankees would score in the 10th inning on Reggie Jackson bases-loaded single to win the game by the score of 6-5. Roy White's key hit comes after Red Sox Closer Bill Campbell retires the 1st 2 Yankee batters in the 9th inning, then Willie Randolph triples to bring up Bobby Murcer. Closer Sparky Lyle picks up the win for the Yankees, handing the Red Sox their 1st loss in 8 games. With HRs from Yaz, Butch Hobson and George Scott, the Red Sox set an MLB record of 33 HRs in 10 games.
1986-Former Yankees Pitcher Philip Hughes (2007-2013) was born.
Philip Hughes was selected by the Yankees in the 1st round (23rd Pick) of the 2004 MLB Amateur Player Draft. Philip Hughes was 9-1 with a 0.69 ERA as a HS Senior walking only 3 batters, while striking out 83 batters in 61 innings. He was chosen to Baseball America's All-American H. S. team. They would sign him for $1.4 million. He would pitch 3 starts for the GCL Yankees that season, only throwing a total of 5 innings, while striking out 8 batters with no walks. Hughes' 1st year as a full-time pro player came in 2005, when the right-hander went 2-0 with a 3.06 ERA for the Class A Tampa Yankees (FSL), holding opponents to a .140 BA, he was 7-1 with a 1.97 ERA for the Charleston RiverDogs (SAL), allowing only a .192 average, 2.10 BB/9 and striking out 9.44 batters per 9 innings. Hampered by tendonitis and a tired arm, he didn't even reach 100 innings, but Baseball America still named him the Yankee Minor League Player of the Year. The publication also rated him the #6 prospect in the SAL. In 2006, Philip was 2-3 with a 1.80 ERA for Tampa and 10-3 with a 2.25 ERA for the AA Trenton Thunder (EL). He would pitch in the 2006 Futures Game, but he was bombed for 3 runs in 1 inning of work, giving up a RBI double to Wladimir Balentien followed by a 2-run HR to George Kottaras. Hughes tied for the 10th lowest ERA (2.16) in the US-based Minor Leagues that season. He had tied Matt Garza for the 2nd-lowest average allowed by a Minor League Starter (.179). Baseball America would rate him the best pitching prospect, the most exciting player in the Eastern League and as possessing the best breaking pitch. Hughes would start the 2007 season with a 2-1 record with a 3.94 ERA for the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barrie Yankees with 17 K’s and a .200 opposing BA in 16 IP. On April 26, 2007, Hughes would make his MLB Pitching debut, in a losing effort against the Blue Jays at a time when the Yankee starting rotation was decimated by injuries. Hughes was the youngest player in the 2007 AL at the time of his MLB player debut, in which he allowed 7 hits and 4 runs in 4 1/3 IP. He was the 3rd Yankees Starting Pitcher to make his MLB pitching debut in the season's 1st 20 games, following Kei Igawa and Chase Wright; it had been 52 years since another team had done that - the 1955 Cardinals with Larry Jackson, Luis Arroyo and Floyd Wooldridge. In his 2nd start against the Rangers on May 1st, he would pitch 6 1/3 hitless innings, but he was forced to leave the game because of a pulled groin muscle. After the game, Hughes was placed on the DL. He did earn his 1st MLB victory though, as the Yankees finished the game with a 2-hit 10-1 victory. He would come back in July with the Class A Tampa Yankees (FSL).
In his 1st rehab stint, he would allow 1 unearned run in 2 innings, walking 2, allowing no hits and striking out 3 batters. He was back in the MLB shortly afterwards. He would finish his 1st season with a 5-3 record and a 4.46 ERA in 13 starts. Also he made 2 relief appearances in the ALDS, pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing only 1 run and earning a win as the Yankees bowed out to the Indians. In 2008, he fought health problems all season, making only 8 starts in the MLB, while going 0-4 with a 6.62 ERA. He was back in the Yankees' Starting rotation to begin the 2009 AL season, but after 7 starts was moved to the Yankees bullpen because the team's relievers were regularly taking a beating. Hughes had trouble adjusting to the hitter-friendly New Yankee Stadium. After a few solid outings, he was installed as the 8th-inning bullpen set-up man for Yankees Closer Mariano Rivera; he would thrive in the role. Hughes was 8-3 with a 3.03 ERA and 3 saves, while pitching 86 innings and striking out 96 batters; while walking only 28 batters. He did not fare so well in the 2009 MLB postseason, being hit hard in both the ALDS and World Series and pitching better, but still being charged with a loss in the ALCS against the Angels. Still, the Yankees would defeat the Phillies in the Fall Classic. After the 2009 Championship season, there was uncertainty about what Hughes's role would be for the 2010 season- starter or reliever. Manager Joe Girardi decided to return him to the starting rotation and that move would pay dividends. With veteran Starter A.J. Burnett struggling, Hughes became the Yankees 3rd Starter behind Bronx veterans CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte. Hughes was a big winner, going 18-8 with a 4.18 ERA in 29 starts. He had a great 1st half, going 11-2, with a 3.65 ERA. Phil was named to the 2010 AL All-Star team, but he slowed down noticeably in the 2nd half (7-6, 4.90 ERA). He won 1st postseason start of his MLB pitching career with 7 scoreless innings against the Twins in the ALDS, but he was hit hard by the Rangers in the ALCS: he lost both of his starts to the Rangers, giving up 11 runs in 8 2/3 innings. Hughes would start the 2011 season on the wrong foot, giving up 5 or more runs in each of his 1st 3 starts. On April 15th, he was placed on the DL with a "dead arm" with his ERA standing at 13.94 and the velocity on his fastball noticeably was down. Veteran Bartolo Colon, who had succeeded him on the mound in all 3 of his starts, he pitched much better than him, took his place in the Yankee starting rotation. Hughes was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment in the Minors in late April, but his throwing sessions on the sidelines were unimpressive, as his velocity was still well down. Unable to pinpoint the source of the problem, the Yankees' trainers cancelled the assignment and had him undergo an MRI instead. Doctors feared that the cause of his problems was a rare blood disorder that could explain his lack of arm strength and of feeling, but medical tests came back negative for circulatory or vascular problems. That left the Yankees still puzzled about the source of his problems, but with no alternative other than have him return to the mound after some rest. Hughes made a 1st rehab start on June 19th for the Class A Staten Island Yankees (NYPL). He had pitched 4 1/3 innings against the Brooklyn Cyclones. After their game of July 3rd, the Yankees would send down Rookie Ivan Nova, owner of an 8-4 record as a starter all season, down to AAA to make room for Hughes in the starting rotation. He finally would pick up his 1st MLB win of the season on July 17th, by beating the Blue Jays by the score of 7-2, while pitching 6 effective innings. He had an immediate relapse of his early season trouble in his next start, however, as he gave up 7 runs on 9 hits and 4 walks in 4 1/3 innings against the Rangers on July 22nd.
Thus, even though the Yankees had scored 9 runs for him in the 3rd inning, he had to leave the game with a no-decision, with Rookie P Hector Noesi replacing him to pick up the win. Just as the Yankees were beginning to wonder whether everything was right with the young righty, he turned out his best game of the season by shutting out the White Sox, 6-0 in a rain-shortened start on August 2nd. He would end the 2012 season with a record of 16-13, with a 4.23 ERA in 32 games, having pitched a career-high 191 1/3 innings, while notching 165 strikeouts, also a personal best. He was solid in a Game 4 start against the Orioles in the ALDS on October 11th, giving up only 1 run in 6 2/3 innings. However, he would leave Game 3 of the ALCS after only 3 innings on October 16th, complaining of a stiff back, trailing 1-0; he was charged with the loss as the Yankees went on to lose the game by the score of 2-1 on their way to being swept by the Tigers. There were more health concerns about Hughes at the start of 2013 spring training, as the back pain, caused by a bulging disk, had not abated. He was unable to take his regular turn on the mound and there were concerns that he would need to start the season on the DL. Those concerns were confirmed on March 27th, when the Yankees placed his name on the DL; although he was only expected to miss 1 or 2 turns on the mound. Indeed, he made his 1st start against the Tigers on April 6th, but he gave up 8 hits and 4 runs in 4 innings in an 8-4 loss. It was the start of a difficult 2014 season, in which his pitching record was only 4-14 with a 5.19 ERA in 30 games, including 29 starts. He had pitched only 145 2/3 innings, a reflection of his inability to pitch deep into games. After the 2014 AL season had ended, Hughes would become an MLB Free Agent. On November 30th, newspaper reports indicated that he had signed a 3-year contract with the Twins worth $24 million. His overall Yankees Pitching career record was a 56-50 record with a 4.53 ERA in 182 games with 3 saves. In May of 2018, the Twins would trade Hughes to the Padres, where he was working as a Reliever for the team. On August 15, 2018, Hughes was released by the Padres. He has retired from the MLB.
1988-Indians’ Closer Doug Jones celebrates his 31st birthday by saving his 14th game in 14 appearances, breaking the MLB record for consecutive saves set last season by Steve Bedrosian. Jones retires all 7 Yankee batters that he faces to close out the Tribe’s 7-5 win over New York.
1991-Starter Scott Erickson wins his 12th consecutive decision for the Twins, tops in the MLB, by stopping the Yankees by the score of 5-0, allowing only 2 Yankee hits. He retires 24 of the final 25 Yankee batters.
1992-MLB Commissioner Fay Vincent permanently bans Yankees’ veteran Reliever Steve Howe from MLB after having pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of attempting to purchase a gram of cocaine. It is Howe's 7th ban from the game, as he becomes the 1st player ever permanently banned from baseball because of drug usage, the ban will later be rescinded. Howe will be resigned by the Yankees; pitching for the team until his player release in June of 1996.
1996-Former Yankees veteran MLB Reliever Steve Howe released by the team just 2 days ago is arrested at JFK International Airport for carrying a loaded gun in his luggage. He will plead guilty to a misdemeanor and received a sentence of 3 years’ probation with 150 hours of community service.

2005-Thanks to Yankees CF Bernie Williams dropping a ball in outfield; the Mets become the 1st NL team to hit 3 sacrifice flies in 1 inning. Catcher Ramon Castro's sac fly to right ties the game at 1-1 as David Wright advances to 3B; then the Yankee's CF then drops Jose Reyes deep fly ball allowing Wright to score; then Mike Cameron skies to right scoring runner Doug Mientkiewicz, who had advanced to 3B on an errant pick-off throw.
2007-Veteran Yankees Starter Roger Clemens makes his 1st relief appearance in 22 MLB seasons, 341 days, a new MLB record. Former MLB Starter Steve Carlton (15 years, 343 days) had held the record previously. Clemens had not pitched in relief since his 1984 AL Rookie season with the Red Sox. He volunteered to fill in when the Yankees had worn out their bullpen in 13 innings yesterday.
2008-For the 1st time since Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, the Yankees visit Pittsburgh. After Bill Mazeroski, the hero of that Game 7, throws out the 1st pitch, the home team pulls off a reenactment of their last meeting, upsetting New York. The Pirates top the Yankees by the score of 12-5, with 6 Pirate players getting multiple hits. Ryan Doumit goes 3 for 5 with a HR, 2 runs and 2 RBIs and Freddy Sanchez scores 3 times while Yankees star hitters Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Jason Giambi go a combined 1 for 12.
2011-Veteran Starter A. J. Burnett became the 1st pitcher in Yankees club history to strike out 4 batters in 1 inning during an MLB Inter-League game between the Yankees and the Rockies. Burnett’s MLB record tying performance came in the 6th inning of a 4-2 Yankees loss to the Rockies.
2012-The Bronx Bombers would snap R. A. Dickey's streak of 44 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run with 4 3rd-inning runs on their way to a 6-5 win over the Mets. Yankees 2B Robinson Cano snaps a 5-5 tie with an 8th-inning HR off of Mets Reliever Miguel Batista. Dwight Gooden still holds the Mets franchise record with 49 consecutive innings without an earned run in 1985.
2019-The Yankees tie a record belonging to the 2002 Rangers by homering in their 27th straight game on their way to defeating the Blue Jays by the score of 10-8. Aaron Hicks and Giancarlo Stanton both go deep in the game, in support of CC Sabathia's pitching, but the Jays, who trail 10-2 after 6 innings, make it a game when they score 5 runs against Reliever Jonathan Holder, who does not retire a single batter in the 8th. The outburst is highlighted by a Grand Slam HR by Freddy Galvis that forces Yankee Manager Aaron Boone to use Closer Aroldis Chapman in the 9th, who gives up another run before notching the save. The Yankees will set a new record tomorrow.
June 25th

Frazier said he would hold a clinic on a day when the Yankees are off.

2019-The Yankees set a new MLB record by homering in their 28th consecutive game. They don't waste any time, either, as the 1st 2 Bronx Bomber batters in the bottom of the 1st inning, D.J. LeMahieu and Aaron Judge, both go deep against Blue Jays Starter Clayton Richard. The Yankees will hit 2 more solo HRs on the night, courtesy of Gleyber Torres and Edwin Encarnacion and hang on for a 4-3 win.
2019-The Yankees would DFA veteran 1B/DH Kendrys Morales since being acquired from the Oakland A’s earlier in the 2019 AL season, he was only hitting .177 with 1 HR and 5 RBIs in 19 games for the team. On June 15,2019, the Yankees had acquired veteran DH/1B Edwin Encarnacion, making Morales, who was on the IL expendable.
2022-The Yankees and All-Star OF Aaron Judge have avoided their 2022 Player salary arbitration hearing today by an agreement on $19 million plus $500,000 worth of performance bonuses-$250,000 for AL MVP and $250,000 for World Series MVP. It was the last MLB player salary arbitration hearing for the 2022 MLB season. Judge will still be an MLB Free Agent in the Fall. Judge had turned down a 7-year, $213.5MM extension offer by the Yankees Front Office during their 2022 Spring Training Camp. He had said that there would no new player contracts talks during the season. By betting on himself looks as if it’ll pay off handsomely, as the slugger will be arguably the top talent available.

Héctor Neris and Ryan Pressly, then pitch 1 inning each, although Neris walks a pair in the 8th, they bring the masterpiece home. The Astros score 1 run in each of the last 3 innings against the owners of the best record in baseball, who were last victim of a no-hitter back on June 11, 2003, also a combined effort by Houston, but that one needing 6 pitchers.

Frank Baker and A’s Team Owner/Manager Connie Mack were locked in a player salary dispute. He had already sat out the 1915 AL season. Mack sold him to the Yankees than rather give into his salary demands. Baker had won the AL HR titles from 1911-1914 and the 1909 AL Triples Crown with 19. Baker won the AL RBIs Crown in 1912 with 122 and again in 1913 with 126. He would play 3B for the Yankees for 6 seasons. After his wife’s death in 1920, Frank had stayed home for during the 1920 AL season to care for his children. He came out of retirement in 1921 to help solidified the Yankees infield, until the arrival of veteran INF Joe Dugan in July of 1922. 2023-After getting hit hard in his last start, Domingo German knew he had right his ship on Wednesday night on June 28th; he did it by throwing the MLB 24th Perfect Game against the Oakland A’s. Also, Germán had snapped a streak of another kind with his historic night. The Oakland A's had not been no-hit since July 13, 1991, in a combined effort by 4 Orioles pitchers, which was the longest active streak in the Majors. The last time an opposing pitcher was perfect against the A's? May 5, 1904, when Cy Young and the Boston Americans went 27 up, 27 down against the Philadelphia Athletics. It was the Yankees’ 4th perfect game, breaking a tie at 3 with the White Sox for the most of any team. Germán joins David Cone, David Wells (May 17, 1998 vs. Twins) and Don Larsen (Oct. 8, 1956, in Game 5 of the World Series vs. the Brooklyn Dodgers) as Yankees pitchers to throw perfect games. "When he gets rolling like that, he's just so fun to watch at his craft," Bronx Manager Aaron Boone said. "He's so good at commanding all of his pitches. His curveball was great tonight. But because his changeup and his fastball were good, too, it made that curveball even more special. "I was actually pretty calm over there. Again, just enjoying watching him kind of paint a masterpiece."
Germán's big night began with an MLB pitching career milestone, his 500th strikeout, which perhaps hinted at more good things to come later in the evening. The 30-year-old right-hander did not seem to miss a beat throughout the evening, even when the Yankees batted around in a 6-run top of the 5th inning that lasted more than 20 minutes. Germán got through the bottom half of that frame on 10 pitches, displaying a remarkable efficiency that lasted all the way to the final out. Germán struck out 9 batters and needed just 99 pitches -- giving him a Maddux, a shutout in fewer than 100 pitches. He is the 1st pitcher to throw a Maddux in a perfect game since White Sox hurler Philip Humber threw 96 pitches in his perfect game on April 21, 2012. “He threw that curveball in any count that he wanted to," A's 2B Tony Kemp said. "It was spinning differently and moving differently. He put his fastball where he wanted to. Changeup as well. He just kind of mixed them. Got a couple of good swings off him, but no results.” It was Kemp who put together the A’s most formidable threat to Germán’s attempt at history, as his 4th-inning flyout to Giancarlo Stanton in RF that traveled 349 feet and would have been a HR in precisely 1 ballpark, per Statcast: Yankee Stadium.
No perfecto would be complete without a critical play to preserve the bid, and Anthony Rizzo supplied just that for the Yankees when he dove to his left to smother a 106.5 mph grounder off the bat of Seth Brown in the bottom of the 5th. Rizzo snared it, then flipped it to Germán at 1st for the out. "I knew it was a fantastic play by Rizz," catcher Kyle Higashioka said. "I thought it was hit hard. … I didn't have a great view of that play, but I saw him lay out for it. He's a Platinum Glover for a reason. "Rizzo also made a nice grab on a throw from 3B Josh Donaldson that veered slightly wide to end the 8th inning, stretching across the bag, but managing to keep his foot down to retire Oakland's Jonah Bride. Equally historic as Germán's feat on the mound was the amount of run support he received from a Yankees' offense that has been scuffling in June. The 11 runs scored behind him are the most in any perfect game, topping the Giants’ 10-0 victory in Matt Cain’s in 2012. The only Yankees no-hitter with a larger margin of victory was the team’s 13-0 win over the Indians behind Monte Pearson on Aug. 27,1938 at Yankee Stadium. Higashioka has now been behind the plate for the last 2 historic Yankees pitching performances: Germán's perfecto and Corey Kluber's no-hitter in 2021. While he may be a common thread between those 2 games, Higashioka maintained that he didn't have much to do with Germán's dominance. "It was quite different," Higashioka said. "Honestly, I just felt like I was a passenger for this one. Just don't miss the ball, and don't mess it up. Domingo was definitely driving the ship, and he had a plan. I mean, we both had a plan, but he had just ultimate confidence in his stuff."
June 29th

His search for the perfect Black Yankees player, delayed the team’s entry into the black baseball player talent market. After being retired by the Yankees front office at the age of 65 in October of 1960, George would join the new NL Expansion Team, the New York Mets in the fall of 1961, as their 1st team General Manager and Team President (1961-1966), bringing along with him, former Yankees Manager Casey Stengel as the team’s 1st MLB Manager. 2001-The Yankees attempt to shore up their bullpen by getting veteran Reliever Jay Witasick from the Padres for Minor League INF prospect D'Angelo Jimenez. The Yankees 1st choice, Montreal Expos Closer Ugueth Urbina, had failed to pass a team physical, he will end up with their Eastern Division rivals, the Red Sox. Jay Witasick was a major disappointment for the Yankees, just going 3-0 with a 4.69 ERA in 32 games. On December 13, 2001, Jay was traded by the Yankees to the Giants for OF/1B John Vander Wal.
2022-The Yankees would claim former Reliever Albert Abreu on waivers from the Royals. They had traded him to the Rangers in April, for Catcher Jose Trevino. Texas would in turn later trade him to the Royals. Albert had posted a 0-0 record with a 3.46 ERA in 11 games for both clubs. To clear a roster spot for him, the Yankees would DFA Reliever David McKay, who had appeared in 2 games for the club with no runs allowed or decisions.
2022-The Yankees have announced that they have traded Reliever David McKay back to the Rays for Cash considerations. The team had acquired him from the Rays before the 2022 AL season had started. He had appeared in 2 games in relief for the club with no runs allowed or decisions.

1889-Former Yankees OF Luther “Doc” Cook (1913-1916) was born. (1889-1973)
On July 23,1913, OF Luther "Doc" Cook was purchased by the Yankees from Austin (TL). Cook had played for the Yankees primarily during the days, when the rival Federal League existed. He was the regular team RF in both 1914 and 1915 AL seasons. On May 15,1916, Cooke was purchased by AA Oakland (PCL) from the Yankees. In 4 seasons with the team, he had appeared in 288 games, while hitting .274 with 3 HRs and 75 RBIs. Cook would make his MLB Player debut in auspicious fashion, leading off for the Yankees and going 3-for-4. The New York Times said that afterwards, he and another new Yankees player, Harry Williams would go see the sights of their new town. Cook had come from Austin, Texas.
1907-Former Yankees Catcher Rollie Hemsley (1942-1944) was born. (1907-1942)
Catcher Rollie Hemsley was an All-Star 5 times during an MLB playing career that lasted nearly 2 decades. Hemsley would reach the MLB in 1928 with the Pirates. He became their starting Catcher behind the plate in 1930. In 1931, he was traded to the Cubs, where he backed-up Catcher Gabby Hartnett and following the 1932 NL campaign; he was dealt to the Reds, where he was a backup to Catcher Ernie Lombardi. He was dealt to the St. Louis Browns late in the 1933 MLB season, Hemsley became a starting Catcher, once again. With the 1934 Browns, he would hit .309. He was an AL All-Star in 1935 and 1936. His BA dipped to .222 in 1937 and prior to the 1938 AL season, he was traded to the Indians for 4 players. With the Tribe, Hemsley initially backed up regular Catcher Frankie Pytlak, but after Pytlak was injured, he took over as the starter behind the plate. He earned another selection to the AL All-Star team in 1939. On Opening Day 1940, he would catch Bob Feller's No-Hitter, he made the AL All-Star squad for the 4th time that summer. Following a brief stint with the Reds in 1942, he joined the Yankees on July 19,1942, when the veteran Catcher was signed as a MLB Free Agent by the team. He had appeared in 174 games for the 1942-1944 Yankees, while hitting .262 with 4 HRs and 65 RBIs. In 1944, he was named to the AL All-Star team. In 1944, he went into the military service, serving in the Navy. On March 25,1946, he was purchased by the Phillies from the Yankees. After his active MLB playing career had end in 1947, Hemsley was a successful Minor League Manager and an MLB Coach with the Philadelphia A’s before retiring from baseball.
1908-Charging that the New York Highlander Team Owners Frank Farrell and Bill Devery with refusing to spend money to build a winning team, Manager Clark Griffith resigns as the team’s Manager; Yankees Shortstop Kid Elberfeld replaces him following today's 6-6-tie game with the Philadelphia A's. The Highlanders will fade fast and finished last in the AL with a club record of 103 losses.

1933-After being hitless in his last 21 at bats, Bronx Bomber Slugger Babe Ruth hits a Grand Slam HR in a 5-0 Yankees win over the White Sox.
1936-Bronx Bombers Rookie CF Joe DiMaggio ties 3 MLB records in the Yankees 10-run, 5th inning against the White Sox, hitting 2 HRs for 8 total bases. With the 2 doubles, he equals the modern MLB record of 4 long hits in a game. Yankees OF Jake Powell hits a Grand Slam HR sandwiched between DiMaggio’s 2 HRs. The Yankees would defeat the White Sox by the score of 18-11.
1997-Yankees 1B Tino Martinez hits 2 singles, a double and a pair of HRs, while driving in 4 runs as the Bronx Bombers top the Tigers by a score of 12-9. Chad Curtis adds 5 RBIs for the Yankees.
June 25th

Dodgers Catcher Roy Campanella won a wrist watch as Game’s MVP with a HR, double performance at the plate and behind the plate, he had caught 3 Yankees base runners trying to steal bases.

Baker won the AL RBIs Crown in 1912 with 122 and again in 1913 with 126. He would play 3B for the Yankees for 6 seasons. After his wife’s death in 1920, Frank had stayed home for during the 1920 AL season to care for his children.

1912-At Fenway Park, the Red Sox would sweep a doubleheader from the Yankees, winning by the scores of 13-6 and 6-0. In the nightcap, Hick Cady makes 2 hits in 1 at bat. His single scores Jake Stahl from 3B, but Umpire Silk O'Loughlin rules that Stahl was balked home. In Cady's 2nd chance, he hits a double.
1915-Led by OF Tris Speaker's 5-for-5 performance at the plate, the Red Sox would trip the Yankees by the score of 4-3 in 10 innings. Red Sox Starter Babe Ruth gets the win, going all the way before Sheriff Gainer hits for him in the 10th inning.
