Volpe... takes a FB high, 1-0 takes another, also high, outer half, 2-0 FB inside makes Volpe pull the hands in, 3-0 Cutter clips the inside corner, 3-1 FB probably just missed the high outside corner, called a strike anyway. Looks like 0% on Gameday, but very marginal. FB inner 3rd, jams him, taps it back to Fried, throws him out, 1 down. Aside from his other positives, Fried is a 3 time Gold Glove winner. Volpe was hosed. That ball looked to go around the plate.

Judge takes a curve just low, inner half, 1-0 Back door curve hit the outside corner, 1-1 FB below and outside middle, fouled off Dials the FB up to 96, blows it by Judge in the zone up and in, K. 2 down

Verdugo gets a sinker near middle, fouls it off. Another sinker on the inside corner, below the waist, rolled over to 2nd, Albies throws him out to end the inning. Fried came out without his usual early inning struggles. Nestor better be on his game, Yanks won't be getting much off Fried, it looks like.
Top 2, 0-0 14 pitches in the 1st for Fried, matching Nestor.

Umpire Chris Conroy spoils a two-men on, no outs beginning to the game. I thought Derek Thomas as HP ump was bad yesterday, too.

For those who care, both the Gameday and the Statcast K zone at Baseball Savant say the 3-1 to Volpe was a 0-1% strike. Remember that the YES zone is tighter by a couple of inches on both sides.

Olson takes a FB that brushes the top, 1-2% on Gameday, but called a ball anyway, 1-0 Fb on the inside corner up in the zone, fouled, 1-1 Cutter waist high away, lifted to the corner in left, Verdugo goes back there and catches, 1 down.

Slider aimed for the backdoor misses outside by 2 inches, called a strike anyway, a break for Nestor. Fb well high, 1-1 Nestor comes set, steps off A 2nd backdoor slider misses outside, 2-1 Takes his time out. Cutter waist high, outside corner, swung on and missed Humps the FB up to 94, tails outside 2-3 inches near the top, Duvall chases and K's, inning over.
Bottom 2, 0-0 13 pitches for Nestor in the 2nd, 27 through 2

The YES K zone made it look like a clear ball, and it wasn't. And good afternoon to you.

Torres chases a sinker well outside, 0-1 Takes a change in the same location, 1-1 Gets a change low in the zone, just inside middle, lifts it to medium deep center, easy play for Kelenic, 1 down.

LeMahieu takes a sinker up and in, 1-0 FB clips the corner inside waist high, 1-5% on Gameday Gets a FB near the top, hits a fliner to center, but Kelenic is there, takes a couple of steps back and left, catches, 2 down.

Slider below and outside middle, fouled FB inside, 1-1 Big curve to the low outside corner swung over. Rice gets a big break, caught looking breaking ball, he took a knee high sinker down the middle that should've been strike, but wasn't called, 50-50 on Gameday. And it doesn't matter, because he takes the same pitch, same height, a couple of inches further inside, for a K. Inning over.
Top 3, 0-0 12 pitch 1-2-3 for Fried in the 2nd, 25 through 2, and he looking like he might get his 3rd complete game this season. Laureano, Arcia, then back to the top for Kelenic for the Braves in the 3rd.
