Nimmo fouls off a 1st pitch cutter above the zone, 0-1 Overthrows a FB at 97 way high, 1-1 Cutter backs up outside, 2-1 Cutter yanked inside, 3-1 FB about 4-5 inches high above middle, chased, 3-2 Cole gets set, then steps off Humps up to 98, FB is high, Nimmo gets a piece to stay alive. Lindor bluffed a bit on that pitch. They turn and throw to 2nd, not in time, but that's the 2nd "disengagement" I think, given Lindor a green light for 3rd.

FB yanked about 6 inches inside waist high, ball 4, bringing up JD Martinez, who's helped lead the Mets offensive charge in this hot streak.

Cutter hits the outer 3rd about waist high, ttaken for a strike Cutter waist high, outside corner, rolled over to Volpe, he gets down and makes sure, and starts an easy 6-4-3 DP, 2 outs, Lindor at 3rd.

Martinez is a slightly better version of Stanton… 🤓

Friggin Boone sticking Torres at cleanup. I would have rather seen Davis or even Jones. Also nothing wrong with push Soto and Judge back a notch and putting Jones # 2… You want a lifetime .186 hitter in front of Soto and Judge?

Cutter misses well outside, thigh high to Alonson, 1-0 FB 97 buzzes the tower, knocking Alonso down, 2-0 Cutter either just off or just on the corner away waist high, called a strike, 2-1. Gameday says 0-1%, marginal FB on the outside corner waist high, taken, 2-2 Takes his timeout. Cutter starts outside a relatively easy take, missed by 6 inches, waist high, count goes full. Cole comes set, then steps off. Tries to tail a FB over the outside corner, misses 4-5 inches outside, ball 4. 1st and 3rd, 2 down for Alvarez, who's never faces Cole, I think.

FB in the zone up and in at 97, taken for a strike. 0-1 FB above middle at 97, letter high, fouled...straight...back. Woo. 0-2 FB well high and a bit inside, Alvarez hardly flinches, 1-2 Cutter well outside again, easy take, 2-2 FB in the middle at the top, fouled back and a bit to the right. FB 99 outside, waist high, 3-2. Missed by 3-4 inches, Trevino tried to pull it back, but no sale. Cutter at the top, just outside, fouled off. Why should that cutter close to the zone be a K against a good hitter, Paulie? FB 98 misses outside, ball 4. Cole has walked 2 in this inning. Blake going out to give him a breather at 26 pitches already.

Not typically, but this isn’t our best line up. He makes contact, could move Volpe along. I’d rather see him bunting than Soto…

Cole gets a mercy out from Alonso to end the inning.

Taylor is 2-4 vs. Cole with a double and a HR. Fouls off a thigh-high cutter on the corner away, 0-1 Hangs a slider outside near the top, Taylor lines it to left for a single, Lindor scores, then send Alonso and Verdugo makes a fine play and throw to gun him down and bail Cole out of the inning. Mets get one, missed a good chance for more. Top 2, 1-0 Mets.
28 pitches in the 1st for Cole. 7-8-9 for the Yanks: LeMahieu, Jones and Trevino.
