Is it too early to call this game? Cole looks awful. The hitters look awful. Either way Cole is gone after 4.

Change low, Nimmo goes to a knee Reggie-style and fouls it off, 0-2
FB outside middle at 95.1, Nimmo is late and under, pops it to left, Verdugo takes a couple of steps toward the line, catchces, inning over.
Top 3, 3-0 Mets, and this one looks grim, early.
16 pitches for Cole in the 2nd, 44 through 2.
Soto-Judge-Torres for the Yanks in the 3rd.

Sinker hits the top of the zone inside middle, taken, 1-1
Slider dives low, outside middle, 2-1
Change misses just low, a typically great Soto take, 3-1
FB just above the zone inside middle, might have been ball 4, but Soto chases and fouls it off. Looking for a HR to try to strike back, I guess
Change inside is easily ball 4, but Soto starts, it hits the bat and then hits his left foot hard, he's hopping around in pain.

Jammed just a bit by a sinker inside below the waist, hit pretty hard but right near Lindor on the left side of 2nd, he backhands and throws Soto out by plenty. 1 down.

Change low just outside middle above the knees, pulled foul.
Tries to hit the backdoor with a slider misses by 4-5 inches above the waist, 3-2
Pulls the string on a change inside middle, Torre misses early and K's, 2 down.

So I wasn't the only one thinking that, chi. Verdugo takes a sinker, thigh-high, right down the middle, 1-0 Takes a slider low/away, 1-1 Sinker just above and inside middle, rolled over to McNeil, throws him out, inning over. And that's it for the "good" hitters in the lineup for another inning or so. Bottom 3, 3-0 Mets. 20 pitches for Peterson in the 3rd, 65 through 3. 3-4-5 for the Mets: Martinez, Alonso and Alvarez. |
