This team is as good as they play today…that’s how baseball is… If so, I vote panic. We might have to wait until the next next game. Or the third game after tomorrow…or…

If the starting pitching does not turn it around it's time to panic. The injury ridden players and streaky declining players are what we are stuck with.

Strange how two weeks ago we were concerned about how to fit Gerritt Cole back into the rotation. The world came off its axis in the interim. Even Cole himself becomes a question mark now.
Every pitcher throws a clunker once in a while. We were fortunate that we had a long run where no one did. Did they all just go cold at once? That’s what we have to hope for…

One of the concerns was how much could the workloads increase without fatigue becoming a factor. Could this be what we are seeing with Gil and Rodon? Boone even discussed it as a possibility with Gil in last night's post game presser.

Hopefully that’s all it is…

Just heard on the radio that Soto was asked about the Mets being after him and seemed to confirm that he is going FA and let the best high bid win! If Soto doesn't come back, that would mean the 2025 Yankees will have 1, I repeat 1 (ONE) REAL STAR left. There are so many holes on this team, which the last 2 weeks have exposed, that it can't be fixed even in the off-season. Soon there will be kids old enough to vote, who have never seen the Yankees raise the championship trophy! Hal is no George. Winning starts at the top!

Cole has an opt out but he's a star and I expect him to be a Yankee next season. If Soto signs with the Mets I expect the Yankees to counter that by re-signing Verdugo and signing Alonzo or Bregman.

From MLB Rumors
Soto: Plan To Address Contract “In The Offseason” By Anthony Franco | June 25, 2024 at 8:27pm CDT
Juan Soto will be the top free agent in the upcoming class and is trending towards the largest contract in MLB history — assuming one counts the Shohei Ohtani deal based on its approximate $461MM net present value. There has never been much doubt that the 25-year-old superstar would test the market, even after Yankees Owner Hal Steinbrenner left open the possibility of discussing a midseason extension last month.
Soto implied as much this evening in a conversation with Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Asked by Heyman whether he expected the Mets to be involved in the bidding, Soto replied “we will see. In the offseason we will figure it out. I’ll let [agent Scott Boras] do his thing. We’re going to see.” The three-time All-Star followed up by speaking glowingly of his time with the Yankees.
Steinbrenner’s comments aside, the Yankees presumably haven’t been all that optimistic about keeping Soto off the market. GM Brian Cashman said in February that the team fully anticipated Soto would test free agency (link via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com). The Yankees will certainly make a significant effort to keep him in the Bronx next winter.
Soto famously declined a 14-year, $440MM extension offer from the Nationals before Washington traded him in 2022. The Padres similarly expressed a desire to work out a long-term arrangement in the early portion of last offseason. That obviously didn’t materialize and he was traded again. There aren’t any publicly reported specifics on contract terms that either San Diego or the Yankees have floated. Heyman said last month (X link) that Soto had declined 7 extension offers within the last 5 years. That has long made it seem like a foregone conclusion that he and his camp would take things to free agency.
He may well do so coming off the best season of his career. Soto hit his 19th HR of the season tonight and is on pace to top last year’s personal-high 35 longballs. He carried a .305/.431/.563 slash line into today’s game. That’d be the highest slugging percentage he’s posted in a 162-game schedule. It’d be the 2nd-best on-base mark, he has managed in a full season.

If Soto leaves that should be the final nail for Cashman.

If Soto leaves that should be the final nail for Cashman. He’s not going to be signed easily. I’m not even sure we should sign him. We’re in a stretch right now where the other holes are showing, holes created by scrimping elsewhere to pay just a few big stars and hoping everyone else contributes. Judge is a sunk cost, as are Cole and Stanton. I love the dude, but he’s not covering right field like Judge did. What do we do with Judge going forward? That’s where my allegiance is.

I've been wondering the same thing. If we do resign Soto we are going to need some young players to step up. I still think Domenguez will be a star but beyond that I'm not sure what else we have.

Agreed...I wouldn't be too upset if Yanks didn't sign Soto, but I am starting to be concerned that Dominguez can stay healthy.

Judge and Soto are the only reasons right now to watch this team. Next year we won't have Rizzo and Torres on the payroll and more than likely Verdugo. Was hoping Stanton would have stayed healthy so maybe in offseason we could have dumped him even if we had to still pay him 60% of his salary. As for the kids other than Volpe really haven't had one step up that plays every day. Dominquez looked good last year but he is often hurt. If you don't sign Soto Judge will not be a happy camper.
