The three gas cans we trotted out of the bullpen now have ERAs of 5.84, 5.87, and 5.40. Gross.

McNeil takes a FB on the corner away, not called, bad call 50-50 on Gameday and the only reason that angers me is that I want this game over faster. Fouls off a sinker out of the zone low/away Makeup call on a sinker well outside, 1-2 Sinker near middle, McNeil inside outs a flare to shortish left-center, but Grishman is playing and makes easy work of what would otherwise be a RBI single. 2 down.

Bader takes a sinker low, 1-0 Chases a knee high sinker just outside, rolls it to Volpe on the left side of 2nd, gathers it up, throws him out, inning over.
Finally, it's top 9, 12-2 Mets.

Pitching is the name of the game. Even though the Yankees have just 2 "real" ML hitters in their lineup, they CAN win with good pitching, something they haven't been getting lately. It's another repeat of 2022, with everyone outperforming their previous numbers, only to collapse before the All-Star break. Is another "one and done" ready for us in October? 15 yrs and counting!

Very appropriately, Wells, Rice and Cabrera in the 9th. Gamel comes in to play the field, along with Jose Iglesias and Torrens stays in to catch.

Nimmo and Lindor are out of the game. FB outside, 1-0 on Wells. Sinker outside, 2-0 FB low, 3-0 FB gets a tiny piece of the corner inside, not called, about 5% on Gameday. ball 4. Normally, I'd want that to be called right, but that BB raises the Yankee WPA from 0.0000000001% to 0.0000001%

Slider inside, 1-0 on Rice. Sinker outside middle, fouled off, 1-1 FB waist high, outside middle, 1-2 Change bounced inner half, 2-2 Sinker above middle, Rice late and under, popped to Gamel in medium deep left, 1 down. If you can't hammer that pitch, Rice, your approach at the plate is wrong.

Cabrera takes a back leg slider that bounced, 1-0 FB misses up and away, 2-0 Thigh high FB inside corner, lined past 1st into the corner in right for a 1 out double. Wells to 3rd with 1 down. Yankee WPA now up to 0.00001%

Torrens goes out to talk to Houser. Curve misses high on the outer 3rd to Volpe Sinker inside, 2-0 Sinker at the high inside corner is "coming after him on 2-0", Gary? Fouled off. WTF? Sinker lined toward the corner, Taylor catches near the line, not that deep, but Wells doesn't budge. 2 down.

Too bad we can't trade Yankee management. I get there is some injuries, but pick a lineup and stick with it, that worked earlier in the season... Interestingly, the Yanks were 3-6 in the 9 games preceding Stanton's injury. The only difference in what had been a consistent lineup during that period was the loss of Rizzo.

Tying run is him--if he scores a second time this inning.

Jones... Takes a FB up and in, ball 1 Slider right down the middle, taken 1-1 Sinker into the top of the zone near middle, taken, 1-2 Slider hits the low outside corner, not called, 2-2. 20% strike on Gameday Sinker outer 3rd, rolled over to Iglesias at short, fields and throws him out, game mercifally over.
Mets pound the tar out of the Yanks 12-2. Yanks lose their 3rd in a row and 9th of their last 11, dropping back to 22 games over .500 for the first time since June 1st. The lose a game to the O's, and a 1/2 game to the Sox and Jays, but nothing to the Rays, who also lost.
They now lead the O's by just 1 game, the Sox by 8, the Rays by 11 1/2 and the Jays by 14 1/2.
