Too many of their few wins lately have been much-needed.

Ok, so lemme get this straight, DJ 1st extra base hit is the drive of the game, and not the enormous 3 run bomb from Soto?? Really??? One needed it a lot more than the other, lol. Maybe, but I think the Yankees needed the Soto drive more. And it's the Yankees Drive of the Game, not the Individual Player Drive of the Game.

That's much better. Pitching still wasn't particularly good again until mop up time, but hopefully the bats can build on this. On to the next one.

3rd star of the game: Volpe for 2 hits 2 runs, the well-conceived and well-executed bunt single, setting up Soto for the big blow, and an excellent, clutch, over the shoulder catch in short right center off of Varsho's flare with Weaver struggling and the tying run at the plate with 2 outs in the 7th. 2nd star: Judge, for his usual excellence, 3 hits, 3 runs and 2 RBI. Oh, I forgot: he prevented the DP ball from becoming a DP by stopping dead on his way to 2nd, delaying Horwitz, getting in a rundown and staying in it long enough for Soto to round 3rd and beat the tag on the throw home by Guerrero. 1st star: Soto for 3 runs, 3 RBI, the big clever slide that beat the tag on rundown cutoff throw home by Guerrero to get the Yanks on the board in the 5th, and the three-run bomb in the 6th that turned the game the Yankees' way. Another big-time game by big-time Juan Soto.
HM to Trevino, for bringing a halt to the rally that seemed to go on forever in the 5th, but only scored two. On a short wild pitch, and yes, Vlad made a judgment error in going for home on it, but Trevino made the brilliant improvisation to not handcuff Tonkin with a short flip, realizing he'd never catch, find Guerrero and get the tag down in time, so Trevino charged and dove for home himself and beat Vlad to tag him out, ending that inning before the game got away from the Yanks, and set up the heroics in the top of the 6th. HM to Torres, for coming out of his coma by capping the 6 run 6th with a 2 run HR, adding a RBI single to right later on.

Ok, tomorrow evening, the Yanks face another pitcher who shuts them down most of the time. Jays will send out Chris Bassitt, who's come back after a rough start against everyone except the Yanks, and is now 6-6 with a 3.46 ERA. He's been lights-out his last 7 starts: 3-0, 1.67 ERA, the Jays have lost his last 4 starts by 1 run each. May that 2nd recent trend contine. Yanks will oppose with Nestor Cortes, who's pitched 3 good games in a row. Nestor is 4-6 on the season with a 3.40 ERA.
OK, tomorrow's preview done, I check notifications for the final time tonight.

Notifications checked, I'll get going for tonight. See you guys tomorrow with a little bit of pep in our metaphorical steps after this win, the Yanks shrugging off a sluggish start to blow out the Jays. Good night to all of you. Bye!

I'm a littke surprised that despite the big lead Boone didn't give Holmes an inning. He doesn't seem to be as effective with a lot of rest and I would hate to see him come into a tight game not having pitched in 4 or 5 days.

Cringing watching Soto slide like that. He would've been out with a "traditional" feet first slide. He did the same in a previous game & scored. Yeah, but Soto probably would have been playing today.

Stroman was unhappy, but not sure what more that Volpe and Torres could have done there. Volpe had to wait for the high hop on the turf, and Torres didn't take long on the pivot. Yep. They couldn't have done anything more. I give Volpe, Torres, Judge and Boone credit for not losing their cool. In my opinion, all 4 of them would have been well within their rights to tell Stroman off.

Not 20/20 hindsight, I have been saying it for decades, and as recently as a few days ago on this message board. Much easier to get hurt sliding headfirst, especially at home-plate.
