with the all star break right (snooze) around the corner, wondering if there's been any word about judge's participation. apparently ohtani (who's having a pretty good year himself w 27HRs) is not participating. hopefully judge declines. don't need him risking injury or messing w his swing. he's already proved he's the best HR in baseball. doubt the yankees would allow him to do it.
only player confirmed is gunnar henderson.

I think Judge has already said he wouldn't be participating. Ohtani wanted to, but the Dodgers nixed it. Like you said, Judge has already proven what he can do against real major league pitching, as has Ohtani.

I'm sure ESPN was dreaming of a Judge vs Ohtani contest, but oh well. Maybe they should just market the actual sport instead of all the gimmicks they promote.

No need to risk an injury on a meaningless contest! Just watching Judgie during a game is enough for me… the man is a home run machine!!!!

The HR Derby lost it's luster with social media and 24 hours sports stations. Back in the day you got to see some of the best hitters in the game compete for fun in the derby. It was also the rear chance to see players you might not normally see. Now you can see every game and highlight. Plus the last few years it has shown the participants are swinging for the fences on every swing and it is messing them up for the rest of the season.

I have never watched the derby and find it childish…just an ignorant construct. The sport is not called “home run”, and there’s a lot more to the game than that…
