Elsewhere in the AL East today, the Astros and Jays play the last game of their 4-game series at Rogers Centre. Framber Valdez (6-5, 3.80 ERA) will try to win the series for Houston, while the hot Chris Bassitt tries to slow down the Astros' Express, and get a split of the series for Toronto. Bassitt is 7-6 on the sesson with a 3.24 ERA after shutting the Yanks down in his last start. At 1:10 pm, the Red Sox try to complete a sweep of the Marlins in Miami. Nick Pivetta (4-5, 4.52 ERA) starts for Boston. He's pitched poorly in his last 4 starts (ERA just under 7.00 in 19+ innings). Rookie Kyle Tyler makes his 3rd start for Miami, he's 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in just 10 2/3 innings this season. The Orioles send ace Corbin Burnes out to try to finish off a sweep of the Mariners in Seattle at 4:10 pm. He's now 9-3 with a 2.23 ERA and is as good a bet as any starter in the league to win the Cy Young Award at this point of the season. The M's will try to salvage the last game with Bryse Miller (6-7, 3.88 ERA). In his last 5 starts, he's had 3 good games and two very bad ones, giving up 7 runs to the Royals in 5 innings and 6 runs in 4 innings to the dreadful Marlins. The Rays and Royals play the rubber game of their 3-game series in KC at 8:10 pm. Zach Eflin (4-5, 3.92 ERA) throws for Tampa. Alec Marsh (6-4, 4.19 ERA) looks to win his 2nd straight after back-to-back poor efforts against the A's and Rangers.
And, at 1:07 pm at the Stadium, it's Montas vs. Stroman.
That's it for the pre-game hullaballoo. See you in a half-hour or so.

Qwik, I love your name game stuff. I think spellcheck changed "Gas House Gang Cards" to "Gas House Gorilla Cards."
I concur on Frankie Frisch with the HOF. If you see a name in Cooperstown that is unfamiliar, chances are good that Frisch muscled him in there.

Can't escape my childhood influences. Clearly, the Gorillas were based on the image of the Gas House Gang.

Ok... India stepping in; Stroman completing his warmups. Game underway about 6 minutes late. Sinker outside middle, grounded to the left of 2nd, Volpe fields and throws out India, 1 down.

Did Rice come off the bag too soon?

Another delay. Reds claiming catcher's interference? Or maybe was Volpe not on the dirt when the pitch was thrown? India not leaving the field. Some sort of review going on, not sure what.

Did Rice come off the bag too soon? I don't think so, but I didn't watch the end of the play closely. Just DVRed and he kept his foot on the bag. They were claiming Volpe in an illegal shift position, but he wasn't.

One of the worst challenges in base history.

De La Cruz... Takes a slurve low, called strike 1 anyway. Bad call, 0% on Gamedayl, about 3 inches low. Cutter backs up and away, 1-1 Stroman hits him with a slow curve, man on 1st, soon to be on 2nd.

Happy 4th of July! Rice is your new leadoff hitter, Volpe dropped to 6th. Need Gleyber and Verdugo to start hitting. I like this ... Rice has so far been a pretty disciplined hitter Like to see them bring Vivas up for the same reason ... He has leadoff potential I couldn't agree more.

Throw over on De La Cruz. Cutter hangs up and away to Candelario, 1-0 Sinker runs well outside near the top, 2-0 2nd throw over and now he doesn't have to worry about it. Sinker runs outside at the top again, 3-0 Might get a home run here, Stroman getting destractions all over. Sinker waist high, outer 3rd, 3-1 De La Cruz goes, but Candelario misses under a cutter into the top in the middle, flies out to Verdugo in left-center, 2 down.
